Survivor and the Tamba Bay Devil Rays.....

Postby Joe Vana » Tue Sep 30, 2008 12:37 am

Hey Guys.....

Talked to FS yesterday, and besides being in great spirits he in passing told me that they are playing in Tampa for the Devil Rays......it is a huge event with the players coaches and like 70,000 of their closest friends.....Survivor is headlining the event....right there is the issue....FS is not a self promoter, does not even post something about a huge event they are playing....I never speak of what we talk about, but I thought this was "public" knowledge so I posted about it here...these guys are always busy, always doing something....and it's usually pretty big.....they aren't playing somebodies bar mitzvah or whatever for a hundred people....and yet because FS is not into promoting himself, or standing on the soapbox, people hardly ever hear about what they are doing.....

He is a quiet guy who weilds a big stick, too bad Survivor gets lost in the shuffle in this community...they do big shows, the best events, yet they are treated as a garage band on here....shame....

My rant...sorry guys....I just want to stand on a mountain top and yell all the cool stuff they are doing or have done that most on here have no idea they did or do.....but I choose not to ever disclose or talk of that stuff either, hope you understand why.....

I'm sorry, but who treats them like a garage band?

I know I certainly don't. Survivor was the only band that survived my "pop" years when they turned into the metal years. I love them then and now.

If you mean to say about the discussions on personnel moves and such, debating things like that doesn't lessen the love of the band's music. At least not to me.

Well, to be fair, this sounds like a "private" or "corporate" gig. Not something "we" can go see. So there would be no use in Frankie promoting this. But your point is pretty valid, Frankie does not know how to promote Survivor...

Nope, NOT private......70,000 in attendance.....far from private.....WE could go if we lived in tampa.....but, since they will be with the team as they go through the playoffs it should be seen by all of us by the time the playoffs are done....

And, not that he does not know how, he just is not comfortable doing it I guess....and that's cool....some guys are shamless hucksters of anything they can get their hand in, some are private as hell and never promote.......and some are right in the middle.....

Well, I honestly would like to know the next time Survivor comes somewhere near me... they came to Canton about an hour and a half away a few years ago and I didn't even know about it. You can tell Frankie I woudn't consider him "shameless" for letting me know about his show. Not a huge fan of Mcvivor, but I'd still go to hear the songs and see Frankie play. Not like it would be a very expensive ticket (no, that's not a knock at all)

I was at that show. Did you go to the more recent show in Akron? It was on July 4th 2007.

I think the only reason that I knew about either show is that a good friend of mine lives in the Akron-Canton area, and he told me about those two shows.

No doubt about it, Survivor needs to make DRASTIC IMPROVEMENTS when it comes to getting the word out about their live shows!!! And it would be very easy to do if they would do a better job on their website. There were recent improvements with their website, but they still need to make more improvements to the site.

Nope :( I might have even been thinking of that show to tell you the truth. I think I heard about it on here after the fact. I was PISSED.

On July 4th 2007 they played at Lock-3-live in downtown Akron. That show was with Robin on vocals.

A few years ago they played at some festival in Canton. That show was still with Jimi on vocals.

And a year or so earlier they played at Lock-3-Live in Akron. Again, that was with Jimi on vocals.

They play in Akron and Canton quite a bit. In the future I will let you know if I find out that they will be playing in the Northern Ohio area. And please let me know if you know that Survivor's playing in Ohio or western PA.

But they really do need to promote their shows better.

SURVIVOR NEEDS SOMEONE TO MARKET THEM BETTER!!! They are terrible about promoting themselves. I don't see it as bragging about himself or the band but Frankie's marketing skills suck! Sorry but it's true! They don't keep the website updated or let their fans know where they are going to be. You would think he would want us there, we are devoted fans. What's the big secret?? He's got the money, hire a good marketing person and webmaster. Hire me!:) LOL!

Well it SHOULD be publicized, Joe Vana, this is a great opportunity for the boyz.

Did it happen by now? How'd it go? Is it Thursday?

This is terrific, any way you slice it.

Fire Makes Steel would be a fantastic selection to play at an event in honor of the upstart Rays, I might add as would the obvious Eye and I Can't Hold Back.
