I like the theme/idea of the song, but is this the worst song off the new album? Tell me yes.

Me too. I know that years ago Dave was working on a solo album. But nothing ever came of it, unfortunately. :(

Come on, Dave and Jim, do an album together :!:

I agree. Not a great song but fun as hell. Congrats to JJ and JP.

Man, I think I heard Dave's voice! Good song idea overall. I liked that they mentioned Mr. Mister (one of my all time favs bands, short history but who cares).

Why is JP all over Jamo's video????? Same as the POL stuff where he jumped all over and just gave Toby choruses to sing.....let Jamo have his moment for gods sake......my god let Jamo have it all to himself.....it's HIS album....

Just my opinion, but c'mon.....JV

I really like the way the JP/Toby vocal trade-offs go in the PoL material. It lends itself well to Toby's theatrical voice/the dramatics of the music... just my 2c

When Rock Was King

Postby Santa Ana » Thu Oct 30, 2008 10:22 pm

Altho I don't think this is the greatest song on the album it is a FUN song and really brings us all to that "back in the day" feeling! :)
However I got to agree with JV as far as the sightings in the video of JP  .. I love the idea of seeing all of the older pix as backdrop on the video
but wouldn't it have been awesome to see each of the special guest stars doing their one liners? I missed the clip of Dave as I blinked the 1st time!! :P
A little too much JP on a video that is suppose to be all about Jimi!

This is a pretty cool concept I think...I'm kind of with some of the others though (the song is a little weak and I hate to say a bit 'Cheesey'...with that said, i enjoyed it, so isnt' that what it's about?

The things i noticed the most:

1. DAVE, DAVE, DAVE - Great to see Bickler doing anything. Who knows, maybe this will spark him to fire it up...sounds good..man that guy can sing...and to see him, JP and JJ in a project together...well I think that says something about Survivor and why it most likely doesn't exist any longer.

2. I'm with JV...a lot of JP for me...Which is what hurts the song a bit. I think some of JP's stuff can be a bit broadway for me. At any rate, the one thing that sticks out to me in seeing this, it becomes pretty clear why JP and FS were not going to coexist any longer and it makes me wonder how they made it as long as they did. JP is all over this thing...not sure what the hell he's wearing and doing his best Eddie Van Halen/We are the World imatation...my point is how in the world with there have been room for Frankie? Do i make sense?

I'm not trying to belittle Frankie, you just get the sense that JP wanted to do a lot more singing and guitar playing than he did. Hell, he's not even on the piano in this video. If FS would have been involved in this, that is the only place you would see JP. Not that that's a bad thing. I really think they kept each other in line and got the best out of each other.

3. I loved seeing the old pics and stuff...as I said...I had fun watching and will watch again...so isn't that the point?

Can't wait for the album...great to see Dave...but it makes me just want more, more, more...

I think the video would've been better if JP had put on some of his old outfits on.  Hell, even some of the stuff he wears now would've been good too.

lol, classic JP outfit.

It's a cool novelty song... I also hope this is among the bottom tier of tracks on the album. It's not horrible by any means but it's not great. It's missing a killer hook.

A much better song that addresses this subject (more narrowly of course) is Brad Delp's swan song with Barry Goudreau - Rockin Away

What a great song, lyrically and musically.

I agree....I love Rockin Away....

But I am scratching my head on this King tune.....you get all these great singers together and you have them sing on a novelty tune....I am just confused at the reason....maybe JP thought this was a great tune...but....JP has done ALOT of Novelty tunes....I think 2 Chicago Cubs tunes, a Chicago White Sox Tune, A Chicago Bears tune, Day Amerian Cried, Black Ribbons and others....but if you get Dave Bickler and Jamo together on a tune, for the FIRST time, make it worth it....and make it about them....the noticeboard is lambasting the video and the song, but I am just confused why if you get Jamo AND Bickler together why it was not made a bigger deal, and on a killer track.....the guitar work by Mike Aquino is great, I am sure he did 95% of it.....

This is a JAMO album....did he pick the tune? Did he choose the cheesy video? The clothes??

JP's house, car, guitars, his wife Karen (she is VERY nice by the way), JP is all over the video, JP sings on camera.......this is a Jamo album right????

JP is the producer and Jamo is the artist...right????

"A great producer gets the best out of the artist, and is rarely heard from, or seen...he focuses ideas and his expertise to promote, and improve on what the artist is doing....and to otherwise polish what the artist can bring to bear".........

Joe,I am with you on this, the more I see it the more I agree.I was thrilled that a video was made.I have heard the whole album now,and this is the weakest track. One thing for sure is that Mike's guitar work throughout the album is really good.He is a very versatile and underrated player if you ask me.
Boy I would love to see JP's house though.

I agree with you about the song and the video. As far as the actual video, I don't know why they didn't film the World Stage show they did at the HOB recently. Some of the video clips towards the end are from there. They had everyone there but JLT and Reno I believe. They could've at least shown Bichler, Barnes, Thomas, Peterik, and Jamison singing. It's too weird to show just JP singing (excluding Jamo as it is his song) as he wasn't a singer of an 80's band.

I thought that was JP's wife in the video. But, it was weird seeing Jamison act like she was with him. Maybe they're all swingers. Just kidding.

Frontiers may have f-d up. Although a cool concept for a song, this may be the wrong song to roll out first for the new album. Maybe do this one last if anything.

LOL...maybe they are trying to get on MTV by paying the freight to get on MTV Cribs.

Richard, what you said about this being the weakest track reinforces the point this was the wrong song to rollout first.

I think there should have been clips of Mickey Thomas, Mike Reno, Bickler, etc. singing their parts but I understand that it was probably not possible due to everyone's busy lives, etc.

I don't think there was too much JP - they just showed him on a few guitar solos, etc. More shots of Jimi and less of the "picture screen" would have been welcome though.

They could've used more footage from the World Stage show at HOB (which was towards the end of the video) to include Bichler, Barnes, and Thomas.
