Dates Beyond September?

Postby jaxmanjoe » Thu Aug 26, 2010 11:54 pm

Pollstar is only showing a few more dates through September for Survivor. Are there any dates planned beyond? Does anyone know of a more up-to-date listing of shows than Pollstar?

Thanks in advance!

Maybe they're hangin it up for good - the description of their shows on these boards sounds absolutely abysmal. Would be for the best unless a JJ or Bickler reunion is in sight.

that description hasn't changed much in the last 10 years. They were short then, and the shows stopped being interesting from a setlist perspective when Bickler left in '99--they were doing up to 4 new songs, and some of those STILL haven't been officially released.

A lot of things stoped when Bickler 'left' in 1999....

Could it be that they were waiting to put out the new cd because they are working on a live dvd to go with it? Call me crazy. Call me a nut.

Let me take that thought one step further. No more dates after Sept 'cause the album is about to be released.

Actually, you guys all have it right and wrong...

I know from a good source (a big oak tree told me this morning as I was walking to my car) that they are planning to release a new double album out in two weeks. The album will contain 32 all-new tracks featuring the current lineup. Two tracks feature a a guest vocal by David Bickler and one track has a guest vocal by Jimi Jamison. Jim Peterik actually co-wrote over half the album with FS and filled in on some back ground guitar and played keys on a number of tracks.

If you purchase the album at Wal-Mart then you get two bonus tracks and a video of the first release.

The i-tunes version features another bonus track and a live track.

The reason for the lapse in touring is the band is gearing up for a major world tour, that will start with a 55 city US tour in the late fall. At least half of the dates the band will co-headline with Journey, with Kevin Chaflant opening at half the tours. Part of the tour they will co-headline with a re-united Bad English. World is they will be joined on tour periodically by Bickler and Jamison.

On New Year's eve the band will play a short set at Madison Square Garden that leads up to around midnight. At that time they Bickler, Stephen Ellis and Peterik, along with Dennis Johnson and Gary Smith, will join the band on stage as the 'original' lineup hits the stage for the first time since the early 80's.

After this point Bickler, Jamison, Sullivan, Peterik and Droubay will embark on the remainder of the tour. It will end with a sold out performance at the Assembly Center in Chicago.

That is when the band will head oversees for the European and Asian legs of the tour. They will cut a live DVD in Japan, commemorating the live laser disc in the 80’s and it is in the works with HBO to televise the major portion of the show.

All this will lead up to the release of the Survivor box set, titled SURVIVOR.

The box set will contain a complete live performance of the ‘Going the Distance’ Tour that was recorded in 1982 at the Boston Garden. It will also feature remastered demos with David Bickler on the complete Vital Signs album from the original recording sessions, along with rare and remastered live performances from the Haymaker’s Session, the Too Hot To Sleep Tour and McAuley sessions. The song will set even features three demos from when Kevin Chalfant auditioned for the band in 1984.

There is also a version of Santa Anna Winds from the Caught in the Game Tour where Steve Perry made a guest appearance with the band at a show in San Francisco.

How’s that for a pipe dream? Now who’s smoking something slander!

sounds good to me, but they must be exhausting all resources to not be able to afford to pay for a bass player on the 2nd half of the tour

wow...to pull that fact out of all that BS is impressive! Reading that I realize that Surivor is the anti-kiss. Where Kiss has very much over saturated the market with you name it (coffins and urinals included)...there is no Surivor anything!

Eyeof your words sum it up! We fans deserve better. By the way does anyone know anything about Bickler's solo stuff? Is that due out?

judging by his twitter page, he's recording. Nothing has been said beyond that. I'm surprised Frontiers Records hasn't dragged him out for one of those project cds yet.

I didn't know he had a twitter page. Doh!

I'll be happy if he could do an acoustic version of Silver Girl, after permission of course!

you don't need permission to do a cover song....just pay royalties. That said, I doubt he has the range to do that one these days without dropping the key. It's songs in that range which is why he lost his voice--twice. He sounded great on the Tiger album, but he didn't have the range to tour with that material.

The man is the heat and the reason I loved that band as much as I did! not sure anyone has the range to tour at that level...ask the double steve's a journey about it...as McAuley has no range, he should be fine for the four shows a year they knock out!

Silver Girl acoustic vs. Rebel Girl acoustic

Which one would you choose to be on the so called Box set?

there are people out there with the range to tour at that level. If Bickler had stayed at the Premonition range, he might have been ok. He went up quite a bit for the Tiger album.

most likely, presuming his voice hasn't lost much since '99. There is precious little that I've heard him sing since then (mainly just the Budweiser recordings, which don't really stretch the vocal cords). I've heard recordings from 1999 where he sounded good....and one where he was dreadful for the start before finally getting his voice about halfway through the show. Santa Ana Winds isn't that high, so if he could do the other stuff Survivor was doing at the time, that one shouldn't be a problem. I'm surprised nobody ever posted any audio of Dave singing Summer Nights at the World Stage show from a year or two ago. Would love to hear that.

Silver Girl might be the highest consistent pitched song he did however.

Yeah, I think you're right about the consistent pitch of Silver Girl.

Marcel,

Crazy at is is the Rebel Girl version does not qualify for my fantasy as I actually have one...I have an mp3 of Frankie and Dave on a radio show doing 'Rebel Girl' acoustic...

It is pretty cool....If anyone does not have it and wants it, let me know...
