Great choice this!

And idea too. 8)

Joe, one of my favs. Frankie's solo in the recorded version was unique to anything he had done before. Do you agree?

..yeah yeah..the poor guy behind the keyboard. He always had a great power of moves behind the keyboard but the camera didn´t show it.
They were young, fresh and hungry and this is what we all missing today. The passion that just this combo can bring to the audience.

I love this song...I think JV's Survivor cover band needs to be called "Broken Promises"

Good performance as well...I also loved Dave on vocals on this song as well, but this may be the best Survivor tune not to be a hit.

JV, please do tell in what way and why you feel When Seconds Count is the best tune. Tks.
:)

For me, Backstreet Love Affair should have been a hit (over WSC).

speaking of Dave on vocals....did Survivor ever do a full version of Burning Heart (as opposed to the later EOTT instrumental-only intro) while he was in the band? Would be interesting to hear his take on that song.

Gotta agree with the others here-- "Broken Promises" is a good name for a Survivor cover band.
"When Seconds Count" is a great song (one of my favorite Survivor songs), but not a great band name.

EDIT: Ok, I'm a bit slow-- I just figured out why "When Seconds Count" would actually be a clever name for a cover band. As in "Survivor was first, we're second, so when seconds count, listen to us." Not bad, actually.

good news is that it would be no worse than some of the Frontiers Records project names, but I don't think anyone would ever get the reference. From a marketing perspective, almost almost anything would be better.

True, but do you think anyone would get the "Broken Promises" reference either?
I think the only reference people would get is yet another Eye Of The Tiger reference, and I'm tired of those. I hate how all the Survivor compilation packages (or most of them, anyway) have to have a picture of a tiger on the box. I understand it, of course, but it gets old really fast. They have so many songs that are so much better than EOTT.

Since EOTT is not even in my 100 favorite songs I would NEVER name the cover band after that tune....it is a Bside that made it huge off of a movie...BUT, their best stuff remains untouched....that is the stuff we are going to do....we are going to do deep cuts like Jackie Go, Backstreet Love Affair, Hearts a Lonely Hunter....ect.....

As Charlie Sheen says....It will be EPIC...haha

JV,

I just got Caught In The Game on CD (because my cassette edition "finally" wore out) and yes Jackie Don't Go is a great choice. One of my all time favorite Survivor tracks.

As for this first video choice, I love the song, another favorite track, but for me I thought the live performance sounded great but they seemed a bit rooted in place for the actual performance.

I know when I saw them on the When Seconds Count tour they were very active on stage.

I wish they would have played songs from When Seconds Count.. That album has more excitement and musicianship than any other they have done. I thought it had that certain magic . They keyboards , guitar and awesome vocals. Good pop songs and rock songs combined. Frankie's guitar sound had that special signature sound. Too bad they wasted all these years on useless feuds.

Joe, while I appreciate BSLA in the set, but Hearts A Lonely Hunter? If you don't mind me opinionating that perhaps you leave that one out....Dave, Frankie, Peterik harmony at the start is irreplacement. Also exactly which vocalist can do the bridge?

I love Heart's a Lonely Hunter. Probably a pre-cursor of Santa Ana Winds, as the styles are certainly similar.

Not sure the bridge is any harder to do than Nothing Can Shake Me. That one isn't for the faint of heart either.

I can sing the bridge no problem.....its not that high for me......

Dave and I have similar ranges....

And BSLA means alot to me....First song JP played me off of WSC in his living room off an original acetate....he had these GREAT Yamaha speakers that I have never been able to find and a revox turntable.....and a mod squad CD player....great stuff.....

Geez JV you really are determined. But if youre really sure about it, Im all for it my friend. 8)

I would have loved to hear BSLA on acetate (that the rest of us had no such privilege) It must have been like falling in love the first time :D

WRT EOTT unfortunately most people remember it as a Rocky tune. Not for me. My first time was on radio (never knew it was from a movie till a year after Rocky 3 and I till this day do not equate it as such). And the CD sound is different from the cassette which I still have in my possession. That said, I think Burning Heart is a better crafted tune.

I think it's their best song. That first album overall may be up there too.

I think a good tribute band name would be:

Poor Man's Survivor.

or maybe for legal reason, Poor Man's Son.

I've always liked Burning Heart more than EOTT.

It's a shame "Man Against The World" didn't make the Rocky IV soundtrack, as it was intended to, but I have to say that I do like "No Easy Way Out" a lot, too, and it probably fit the Rocky IV vibe a bit better (it sounds less theatrical, and more like the classic 80s rock/pop sound that defined Rocky IV.) Still, I think "Man Against The World" would have been good to include on the R4 soundtrack CD. I mean, hell, they included "Sweetest Victory" which doesn't appear in the movie, so why not MATW?
