Eye of the Tiger remaster?

Postby GrandIllusionist725 » Sat May 28, 2011 4:09 pm

I redid my Survivor CD collection by getting ahold of the Rock Candy remasters that they had, but now I am wondering, was there or will there ever be an Eye of the Tiger remaster? I have edition from 1990 and the sound is horrible. I wasn't sure if there was some sort of remaster at one time or something that has better sound than this.

Several of Survivor's albums were originally released in America on CD back in the 80's.
In the 90's all of Survivor's albums were remastered and re-released on CD in Japan. Those remasters were a significant improvement in sound quality over the originals.

In the last year Rock Candy have remastered and re-released all of Survivor's albums on CD except Eye Of The Tiger and Reach.

I do not yet have any of the Rock Candy re-releases myself. But a friend of mine that is also a huge Survivor fan has them, and he raves about them. He says that they sound way better than the remasters from the 90's.

My only guess as to why Rock Candy have not yet re-released Eye Of The Tiger is that 2012 will be the 30th anniversary of the album, and maybe their going to release some 30th anniversary special edition of the album?

The rock candy remasters are unbelievable. Comparing Vital Signs remastered to the other is incredible how different they are in sound. I enjoyed that the remasters had a bonus track or two, but only ones from soundtracks (The Moment of Truth, Burning Heart).

Thanks for the info on Eye of the Tiger. It's hard to believe that next year is the 30th anniversary. I would expect a big remaster from that, I see that REO is doing one with Hi Infidelity so it should happen.

Rock Candy will not be doing a remaster of EOTT,Sony BMG wouldnt release the rights for it being re-released.The Rock Candy remasters are superb,I was glad to help a bit with the memorabilia in the booklets. As for EOTT the Japanese re-issue from 2009 is the ultimate version to have the Japanese 2008 SHM-CD is also good.If I was a betting man I would say that Sony may well do something with EOTT in the future.Totally agree about the 1990 cd copy doesnt sound great and packaging is terrible!!

So, I take it that you own a copy of EOTT on SHM? Does it sound really good? Better than the remaster from the mid-90's?

How did it come about that you provided Rock Candy with memorabilia for the booklets?

Hi the SHM cd version does sound great but in my opinion the Japanese re-master from 2009 is the one to have at the moment, part of the paper sleeve re-issues campaign that came out in 2009.
With regards to the memorabilia someone I know in the business here in the UK put my name to Derek Oliver who runs Rock Candy records,(it is a UK based label) telling him about my massive collection of Survivor pic sleeves from around the world and photos,so they were used in the booklets which made my day LOL!!

Thank you for the info on both the EOTT CD's, and my Pride Of Lions question in the other thread.

So, do you think that the 2009 EOTT reissue sounds better than the SHM remaster of EOTT? Or is there something else about the 2009 reissue that makes it better, like the packaging?

I was not aware that Derek Oliver is the one who runs Rock Candy. I'm from America, but years ago I tracked down a number of issues of Kerrang magazine that had articles about Survivor, Journey, Foreigner and other AOR/Melodic Rock bands that I like. And I know from those issues that Derek Oliver is a big AOR fan.

Hi yep I would say that the 2009 version is better,I dont actually like the paper sleeve packaging find it a bit cheap to be honest.Hopefully one day we will get a full expanded remastered EOTT.
It is the same Derek Oliver from back in the Kerrang days, still a fan at heart of the genre.

Sorry to keep bugging you about this, but I have one more thing that I'd like to clarify.

Is the SHM EOTT release a remaster? And is the 2009 paper sleeve EOTT release a remaster?

Hi it's fine glad to help, they are both remasters but I have listened to them side by side today and the 2009 paper sleeve is better to my untrained ear, although nothing wrong with the SHM cd its a tough choice unless you are a collector like me who has to have it all!!!

Thanks again!

I have friends that are also big Survivor fans. What would be cool would be if I buy one of those editions, and a friend of mine buys the other edition, and then I could burn the two editions so that we both had both editions.
