Gina McAuley on Robin's Departure From Survivor

Postby Slander » Tue Nov 15, 2011 5:17 am

Wow. Robin didn't say much, but it doesn't sound like Gina was too thrilled how things went down in the end. This was posted on her Facebook page:

Today it was proven again ... don't trust anyone! They'll use you, abuse you and screw you as hard as they can, all with a smile on their face while they are too wimpy for honesty with themselves ... I am so tired of this bull$@#$

Slander has already done this. But I too, want to thank Robin for his time in Survivor!

I have always made it clear that it was my hope that either Jimi Jamison or Dave Bickler, or both, would return as the lead singer of Survivor.

Whereas I never felt like Robin's voice was quite right for Survivor, I still want to thank him for his contribution to Survivor. He helped keep Survivor alive for the last 5 years. The band was barely active during that time, but I doubt that it was in any way his fault.

Robin always gave a good show to the fans, and I was impressed by his vocal performance the last time I saw him perform with Survivor.

Robin, you always gave it your all, and I never heard you say a bad word about the fans, even when you were sometimes unfairly criticized. You seem to be a total class-act! Thank you!

Well put, and I hope more say the same thing. Robin is terrific! I'm sorry it all had to end this way. By the way, I thought he was fantastic live. Did the band proud!

She oughta keep quiet. Publicly airing dirty laundry is a good way to burn bridges in her husband's chosen profession and I doubt they're in a financial position to just chill.

Thanks for posting Tito, love the old photos, the good ol days! I feel very fortunate to see Dave so many times with the band. He will always be my favorite of the two singers. It would be awesome to have him back again too but if not Dave, then getting Jimi back works for me, i think it was a good move. Now get JP back too, that would be reunion I'd travel miles to see!

Am I the only one not too thrilled with this reunion. I see Jimi doing a lot of solo dates and working on other projects as well as he should! I see this as nothing more than the guys getting back together than to play a handful of dates in 2012. Call me cynical. We have the big announcement and then nothing!

Not thrilled at all...same old, same old....

Besides if they play three county fairs and promise new music (that never comes) for three years, who cares who's in the band...

I would like to say i'd be thrilled if Dave were back in, but let's be honest...even then other than an occasional low grade youtube video, what would it mean to any of us who won't happen to be at the Volusia County Fair on August 14, in Elmira, Wisconsin just before the pie eating contest and just after the greased pig catching contest!

hey Axe...what does this do for that 'new single' that's coming any day? Will they have to recut it? Damn!

Nah.....they'll just use joe's demo vocals and say it's jimi, besides in 2015 when it finally comes out no one will remember robin was in the band and by that time who knows Joe might be.

Eye I know you didn't care for Robin, but he was great with fans and I don't see kicking this guy. It makes no sense. It's not fair to judge him since we never got a chance to hear the new material that was promised.

Relax Slander, I'm only teasing...I'm sure whatever FS did to him is kicking enough for all of us...

And even you have to admit, it was awful. Just a bad, bad, bad experiment...

Knowing you are NEVER going to release anything near new, you have to pick a replacement with some symblance of an ability to cover your material...McAuley was not that...I don't blame McAuley...I blame FS...

However, that was some nice cover art on the new single! It's what we'll always fondly remember the McSurvivor era for!

Worse replacement? JSS with Journey or Robin with Survivor?

Robin easily. JSS actually sounded good on the Raised on Radio stuff and later material once Perry's range descended to normal human audible levels. If you had JSS replacing Perry in '87 when Journey could still get on the charts, it might have worked. When you are a slave to the greatest hits-dominated set, all you are going to do in 2006 is burn out JSS's voice, so you have to get someone who can comfortably handle the earlier material.

Well, Robin's voice is really nothing at all similar to Jimi and Dave's voices. If you listen to the Soul Sirkus song "Coming Home," JSS sounds a tremendous amount like Steve Perry on that song. And JSS did a good job on the Raised On Radio songs that he performed live with Journey.

But, Robin gives pretty consistent vocal performances live. JSS, based on what I've heard on bootlegs, and one concert that I attended, struggled badly on the Infinity, Evolution, Departure, Escape era songs.

Robin!

I finally saw them this summer, my first time with Robin and first time in almost 10 years since I saw the band. The band as a whole sounded good and was tight but was to loud. It could have been how it was set up being outdoors but my ears rang for a day! I want to hear the words and it was so loud it turned into mesh. And Robin was out there, a good front man and really getting the crowd going, but I couldn't get past the tattoos and rocker look. Don't get me wrong, I like that look but it doesn't fit with the band or the songs. I"m no knocking Robin! I like him, and things he's done with other projects, but not Survivor. That is why it took me 10 years to finally go see them and only reason is they were practically in my back yard, I could miss the opportunity. I just feel so very fortunate to have seen them with Dave all those years ago. I was so worth it!
