I'd prefer if they skipped the tour and spent time recording new material. But obviously, from a business standpoint, that wouldn't make much sense. I really do hope we get SOME new music from Jimi's return to Survivor, though. And I hope it happens before 2030.

The impression I got from the FS interview was that the recording was going to happen after the touring, so we're looking at another year most likely...

A year, decade, lifetime...who's counting....

All kidding aside, does anyone on here actually think there will ever be a 'new' Survivor album or that they will hear that awesome single form last year, or that we'll find out about the home for Fire Makes Steel that is going to 'blow your mind'?

what's the point in announcing one single date?
if this is a sign, then things are not changing that much. Get some serious management, dudes!

Yeah, I can clearly see with that extensive of a tour, why they MUST push back the recording of the 'new album' (I actually just chuckled outloud!) another year... It's really too funny...

Me too! When was the announcement made? Nov? I just don't get it. If you really really really want to create interest, grab Jimi, get in the studio, and put together 10 strong tracks that I know are already written. Get the fans back!

Patience guys! With this extensive touring schedule, FS just does not want to rush this new album...besides all of us in the business know the hardest part is the cover art and that is done! This is going to rock and I hope my kids, kids, kids, grand kids, enjoy it when it hits!

That's the baffling thing about this-- the material is already THERE. We know they had at least six finished songs with Robin, and I've read interviews where Frankie talks about having "hundreds of songs" lying around. Now even if we figure he's exaggerating and only has half-a-dozen songs lying around, that's still a total of 12 songs. They have a proper singer, so polish up those songs, record them, release them on iTunes if no record label is interested, get the fans interested, and THEN tour. This band really needs to hire a new manager.

They have the material to record a new album now. But I think that Frankie just doesn't see there being much money to be made from a new album. It would be nice if he would put art ahead of money, for a change.

I don't think that Survivor's manager is calling the shots in any way? He's probably just a yes-man that was put in place by Frankie?

I agree about the money, but you'd think as a creative person, he'd be glad to be able to have some NEW material to perform-- surely he gets sick of always having to play I Can't Hold Back and Eye Of The Tiger.
Besides, a new album might generate some new interest, which would get more people attending the shows, so it could lead to more money. I'm not delusional enough to think a new album would be knocking Adele off the charts or anything, but at least among the AOR crowd, it might make some waves.
Oh well, I guess everyone's entitled to retire at some point, and it seems that's essentially what Frankie has done.

Of course there is no money in putting out a new album, but it would be a great gesture for a loyal fan base that has followed this band through thick and thin (3o plus years for me). Recently groups like loverboy, dokken, put out singles instead of whole albums. Why can't FS and the band do the same. Is it asking too much? One song? In fact, I read an interview with Mike Reno following the release of the single "Heartbreaker" where he said the following:

"I don't know if it's worth it. I don't want to spend $400,000 in the studio recording 12 songs, when people only want one or two. I don't expect to be on the radio anymore."

So I do understand FS not wanting to invest in a new ablum, but one song? I think he and the band owe us that much. I hope I don't sound out of line.

I would say Survivor as a whole wasted a lot of years for nothing. They never toured much or kept a loyal fan base other than all of us year round on here.

How can you say it is a waste of money . In the USA probably but overseas there is a market for them.

Jimi seems to be a big star on his own now. I think Survivor will be his secondary job and continue to tour and make music with One Man's Trash .

He reclaimed his vocals. I still think Peterik's lyrics with that voice is the magic.

The live show has to be better than it used to be. Hopefully a longer set with more songs .

Like most bands maybe they should re-cut some of the old classics with the new band like Foreigner did.

To address a few points....

1 - The "new" tunes were written with Robin in mind....not JJ...at least the 6 I wrote with FS....and IF they are doing a new album with JJ then I believe the songwriting will take a different shape...and I will give my left arm to be part of that!!

2 - I believe JJ would make more money doing shows with Survivor...and that is a GREAT reason to come back....on ALL fronts....I am very happy they are reunited....

3 - JJ could sing the phone book and it sound like magic...and those lyrics you speak of are written by FS AND JP.....just saying....

4 - Your big star comment....well....JJ with Survivor is 30 times as big as JJ alone....he would tell you that....BUT.....he deserves to be back, and he is....Survivor is a WORLWIDE brand...

5 - I think there is ALOT of things happening that will floor you guys....be patient....you waited this long didn't you????!!!!

6 - 2012 will end up being a really good year for these guys....just watch...

Joe.
If your at liberty to tell us, I was wondering, with the songs that you co-wrote with FS, did you write most of the lyrics? Or did FS have an equal contribution to the lyric writing of those songs?

Well, I noticed in one interview with Jimi that he said something along the lines of that "Jim can't be with us [Survivor] at this time." And, as we know, Peterik is working on another POL album right now. But, eventually, he will be done working on the POL album. So......... :D

My big hope is that Survivor would benefit from both the Rock of Ages blockbuster movie and the Rocky musical in order to renew interest in younger generations. I'm 33 yo, and I'm wondering what would be the attendees mean age when the band will show up at Lincoln, in a casino showroom? I understand it's a huge chunk of their fan base, but I again hope that with the movie coming out in summer the band would be able to play at summer festivals where younger audiences are (and I don't mean country fair or parking lots..)

The search is over is featured in the Broadway musical, so I thought it would as well be there in the movie.

I don't see Jimi coming back for fly in gigs. There has to be something more to it. I would suspect they will be on one of the big package tours this summer. Maybe with REO or Styx or both.
