Rating: B

Faith In The Heartland | The Place In Your Heart | A Better Life | Every Generation | Butterfly (She Flies Alone) | Believe | Knowing That You Love Me | Out of Harms Way | In Self-Defense| Better Together | Gone Crazy | Beyond The Clouds | Never Too Late (remixed)

Journey are back with an album of songs that should satisfy both new and old fans of the band. Neal Schon admits he is sick of people arguing over past and present lead singers. He puts his money where his mouth is and instead of spewing more crap for Steve Perry fans to dissect, he picks up his guitar and jams. Generations is a good album that stays within the bounds of what most feel a Journey album should be but still manages to push the limits beyond what is safe and comfortable.

The opening track is perhaps the best on the album. "Faith in the Heartland" sounds like the band’s classic material and will be a fan favorite with the hardcores. "The Place in Your Heart" will do the same. These songs, while very good, are not the most interesting. That would have to go to "Gone Crazy" and "In Self-Defense." Schon really stretches out and jams on many of the albums tracks while the rest of the band follows along.

Journey prove they are not resting on their laurels and they prove they are still interested in shocking the fans as each member takes turns singing a song. Will Generations be the big comeback they are looking for? Doubtful with the way radio is these days but if classic rock fans and Journey fans are diligent then they will demand this music be heard. I promise that if we all call our local radio stations and get "Faith in the Heartland" on the air and in rotation that it will be a hit. Support a great band by buying this album and checking them out on the road in support of Generations.
