It's their job. It's what they like to do. It's what the fans want. It pays the bills...err, buys the new Harley, the new beach house, the new studio for Jon, the vacations, the airline tickets so Steve can fly out to San Francisco to write and record music.

So far, I counted 56 shows played..At an average of 7,000 per(some venues were 12,000, some 3,000)...that's 392,000 fans, with 9 shows remaining...another 60,000, for a rough total of 450,000 fans....

Just imagine if they had proper promotion, the singleS on radio, that could be 1 million easy.

Why NOT? They have toured every year, and this time around they have a new CD, the crowds are getting huge again, and Steve is sounding awesome, especially when he sings songs suited to his own voice (something every vocalist pushes for).

They need some good promotion, and they'll have it made.

Since this band has toured behind ONLY the old hits for so long, how come you never asked this question before? :?

I wrote this in a thread at BT based on someone else's comments about this year's tour. Given the state of Journey self-promotion, their history, and their last several years of touring I have come up with a "new Journey" model of touring.
Discuss...

*First, Make sure the pre-Perry set is ON THE DVD, then retire that era all-together.

*With that time freed up, the band can add more Augeri-era material.

*Start to whittle down the Perry-era "non-hits".

*Keep the dirty dozen and play "Remember Me", 3-4 songs from "Arrival", all of "RED13" (sounds better in concert than on CD and WAFTE needs to played live while "I Can Breathe" is closest to the signature Journey sound) and play 5-7 songs from "Generations"!

*With each new release (if there are more)add the newest material.

Face it, the crowd indulged the band for the pre-Perry set but only the die-hards really "got it". If people are gonna indulge Journey, let them indulge the NEW Journey!

PERFECTLY said, and 100% correct.

Again, why aren't we managing this band? It's like a great racehorse. Are you reading this Neal? All we have to do is manage your band..The band is awesome..The trainer(Azoff, Barouck, sucks)....I am telling you, hire one of us.....we, at least have ideas..a vision, a conquest type mentality; Azoff is off blowing the Eagles...

Dave,

Good points all around but you know me, I have to disagree with you on 'never' playing pre-Perry era songs again!!! There is time for songs from all era's of this band. No, they don't need to play four or five, but I think one or two songs from that era is appropriate. Don't ya think?

I wish the band a lot of continues success...but realisitcally, if Generations doesn't score in popularity (which given the state of radio today is doubtful), then I believe Journey will be forced to become moreso a nostalgia act. I'm glad you are all seeing young people in the crowds, but without a major success here, they will have a hard time being able to present more than their greatest hits. It's the same for many bands from the classic rock era. I really do hope it turns out differently, but lightening very seldom strikes twice. No flames intended.

Sadie, I must have talked about the lack of prmotion on any scale til I was blue in the face. This new CD is that good.. Trust me, It's more catchy than Have a Nice Day, or U2's new one..No, I am not being biased.. It's that good...It is pitiful what radio and airplay have become..real sad.

Maybe to do like a "rockblock" or "sampler" type of thing where the band plays a portion of one song and then leads into another song. I have been to several concerts where the band does this. It still allows the content to be played live, but it does give more time for the later hits. I do agree with the idea of slowly weeding out the pre-perry stuff and weeding out the non-hits from the Perry era. Some have said to keep the dirty dozen...I guess those songs would include:

Open Arms
Escape
Seperate Ways
Send Her My Love
Faithfully
Be Good To Yourself
Who's Crying Now
Anyway You Want It
Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'
I'll Be Alright Without You
Don't Stop Believing
Wheel In The Sky

I would probably add When You Love A Woman just because it was our only grammy nominated song and it was a pretty decent hit for Journey during the reunion.

I don't see why we need to weed anything out...Springsteen keeps his band on it's toes by bringing a new setlist every night...He will play lost gems every night..

I may be in the minority here, in fact I know I am, but I LOVE the dirty dozen..I love watching the crowd get pumped and drownout the band..To me as a fan, I want to see the crowd in harmony, and when they play their last 10 somgs or so, the entire audience is inolved..

I also truly believe Faith in the Heartland, Place in your Heart belong in the dozen..they fit in perfectly, so does Higher Place. I don't know why for the life of me, Alive Again is never discussed nor played..That song has Journey positivism all over it.

Ohhh...good point! I love Alive Again! And in a seperate thread, I forgot to add that into my setlist! To me, that was the most "Journey-type" of song off of Arrival.

Believe me, this is not what I want to happen. This is simply my opinion on what I think should happen. You're right that they could play 1 song off each pre-Perry CD, the dirty dozen (including TBF), and STILL play Remember Me, 2-3 songs off Arrival, all 4 RED13 and 4-5 songs from Generations. But what would you whittle down when (if) the next new CD comes out?

I don't get your post.
Why are you taken aback by the notion of a touring rock band going on tour. It's what they do.

GIVE IT A REST in the US

Sounds like they are already planning on some European Festivals next year and that is great. Those poor fans have been begging for it, it is about time!!

Here we go again. You'd like that, wouldn't you, PF? Then you wouldn't have to hear all the good US news.

What's with the grammar comments, Hottsie? You've done your share (on purpose, no doubt, but still....)

I would take Generations over Faith in the Heartland, but ABSOLUTELY agree with you as far as Place in Your Heart and Higher Place...both belong on the next Greatest Hits cd! :!:

Watch it, boodles. You're so clueless it's not even funny anymore.

Kindly stop twisting my words around, will you?

You're comment above is really saying that they should go over to Europe, and not tour the US. (something you would obviously like, for obvious reasons).

I wasn't saying whatever you implied.

I see no reason why the band can't do both...some US dates...and some European dates...if they can arrange the logistics, and make it to their monetary advantage.

Since I don't drink, and have said so here before, go have a couple of really stiff ones ....on me.
