Going to see Journey @ HOB - What's With The New Shows?

Just decided to take a day off and go down to Myrtle Beach in a few weeks to see the Journey show - It's general admission so should be a great opportunity to get close to the stage and see the show. Saw Soul Sirkus in Alexandria this spring and was 3 feet from Neal the entire show - Absolutely amazing. Every other time I've seen Journey it's been from at least 20 rows back, so this should be pretty cool.

Was wondering if anyone knows what the deal is with the new shows? Are they going back to Greatest Hits again? Are they going to promote Generations more? If it's another 80 minute set of greatest hits, I'd be a little disappointed, but still looking forward to seeing the band at a smaller venue.

Expect at least 4 Generations songs in the setlist...That's what it's been averaging this tour. Sometimes they've played 5 or even 6.

I was in Alexandria for SS as well, and will likely be at the MB show, hopeful of getting as close as I was at SS too. HOB should be an awesome venue to see Journey. I'm hoping at least a 2 hour show with
4-6 Generations songs.

If the show is as impecable as the one I caught in September, then u are really in for a treat.
The way Aug was hitting notes that nite..man, I never knew he had it in him.
Amazing.

And, if the HOB show is lousy, u'll still be in the front row anyways.
Which always makes for a good time.
However, sometimes the sound is lousy in the front.

Either way, be sure to report back with ur honest thoughts and critique.

I don't think they're doing the 3-hour show for most of these dates. Other than Houston, which is a make up date, I think it'll be more of a 2-hour GH show. (I'm pretty sure that's what I read somewhere - BT, Fan Club email, something like that...) Which means, basically, the second half of what they've been doing all summer. Generally, 2-3 Generations tunes. It'll be interesting to see the set lists come in...

Will the Houston Show be the three hour show??? I would MUCH rather see it than the greatest hit tour type of show.

Yeah, I was afraid that I'd missed the 3 hour show...A venue like HOB probably will limit set times anyway. Just to hear a few of the Generations songs live would be worth it, and also as NC mentioned, being up close for the show will be awesome as well.

I know the CD giveaway is done with the Houston show.

I have not heard what the set length will be for the next batch of shows, but based on the scheduling I do not think they are 3-3 1/2 hour shows. Journey are running up to 3 nights in a row and only one day off in between many of them. They are scheduled for quite a few shows through the month of November.

My wife and I saw Journey recently at the amphitheater in Marysville (just outside of Sacramento) and I believe it was a 3-hour show (or close to it).

They started with songs from albums prior to Perry's joining the band and played songs all the way through. I was really surprised at how quickly the show went. Before I knew it, it was over and it was close to 11pm!

They played a number of tunes from Generations and of course, many of the old standards. Augeri sounded better this year than in previous years. I read somewhere in one of the other threads that he possibly uses a steroid-based inhaler? If he does, that would explain why he sounds better, but for his sake, I hope he doesn't use that for a long period of time.

The band really sounded tight and I am constantly amazed at how much energy they exhibit on stage. I don't think I could do it night after night. More power to them.

The only song I did NOT like was "Walks Like a Lady." Ross sang it and of course, he sang it in a low register and he tried to sing it with a jazz flair to it, but it didn't really come across that way. At least Augeri should have done the honors, I think, or they should have not done it. That song needs to be sung in its original higher range.

Overall, a great concert.

I just looked up a few shows; take Waukegan, IL. The press write up does STILL say the show will be of the 3 hour variety. I can see them playing 100 minutes and another Sioux Falls breaking out. I hope "Management" is aware of this. You would think so wouldn't ya?

So, there is still hope for the extended, loooong set...
