Black Sheep of the Family

Been listening all week to the Jon Cain-sung "Generations" Japan bonus track, "Pride of the Family". (thanks Dean)

And now for my thoughts.....
This song has the potential to be a cool stripped-back melancholy accoustic number in the same lyrical vein as "Troubled Child".
Sadly, Jon Cain sings the whole thing through what sounds like his left nostril.
Steve A. should've sang this one, I'm afraid.
He would've instilled it with alot more human feeling.

Also, Neal needs to learn to let some accoustic songs just be accoustic songs. By overriding the accoustic with the electric he risks spoiling the whole effort. Here it's passable, but it ruins any emotive momentun "Butterfly" begun to have going for it as far as I'm concerned.

Also, much like "Every Generation", structurally, the song feels strangely half-baked.

Anyone who has this song chime in!
Andrew, that means you too!

I have POTF and I like it a lot. I like the lyrics and music so much that Cain's lackluster vocals don't even register to me. It's a good song, no need to over-analyze it.

Good tune, GREAT guitars by Neal. Like, haunting or something. I know exactly the nasaly sound TNC's talking about and whereas I think it works for the excellent EG, he should've taken these vox down an octave and it probably woulda killed the high, nasaly struggle in the vocals and they would've been right on. Needless to say, Augeri really coulda done this song justice as with the bridge near the end of EG where JC goes way too high.

Edit this morning from last night:

Just spun again 3 more times. I DESPISE the concept of bonus tracks. This should've (along w/ NTL) been amongst the tracks on offer worldwide. Thanks again to Frontiers for lettings us at least have NTL.

This song is really good, this band can truly write and craft a song. What are the exact writing credits to anyone who would know? I assume it's Neal on acoustic and electric as well?
