Dammit! 2000

Postby Rockindeano » Sat Apr 22, 2006 12:33 am

I am sitting here watching the Band from Phoenix, AZ in 2000.

Incredible. They ALL sound good, but Mr. Schon clearly stands out. This is better than Vegas if you ask me. You can really hear the difference in Augeri.

Let me know if you need a copy.

Sorry man. It's impossible for me to get fired up for an Augeri fronted Journey.

Dude, if you see this show in particular, it's stellar.

I am just saying Augeri in 2000 was great...

Have you seen them live with Augie? Have you seen the Vegas DVD, or seen or heard any boots?

The Vegas dvd is completely a post-production pro-tools job.
The Vegas dvd is not a fair indicator of this band as Augeri does not sound like that live.
Wanna hear what Augeri sounds like?
Go pick up the Tyketto live disc.

TNC, on this Phoenix show, he actually sounds decent, if not good.

We all know that was the crest of the coaster.....

Is this the NYE 2000 show? That would be the day AFTER the Vegas show was filmed.

Personally, having been at the Vegas show, it's better on video than it was in person. Being NYE weekend in Vegas, the crowd was just not into the show and the energy wasn't there. A month earlier in Reno when they debuted "Higher Place" & "All the Way" was MUCH better.

Don't think so, because there was no Arrival out yet. They did play Livin to Do..a haphazard version.

Cain mentioned a "new album out next year."

Sounds interesting. Explain. Is this anything like the haphazard version of "Live and Breathe" they used to play as a lead-in to WITS?

Yes to both. I have seen them twice with augeri. Both times I lied to myself and said he sounded just as good as perry.

I have one boot from their first dates with augeri in japan. I thought he did sound moderate to good on that jap boot.

Bottom line: I'm convinced now that even if augeri's voice sounded just like perry's, I still wouldn't be excited about Journey. It is the non singing stuff that Perry did with the crowd that made Journey so huge. He had a talent for emotionally bringing the audience into the performance.

Read what he says here folks. This is the truth. I know it's hard to admit reality when you don't want to but let's stop lying to ourselves.

Are you saying the folks at this NYE concert were not Journey fans? Just out enjoying a party of any sort for the holiday??

thanks Michelle

I was there and feel the same way.

They were there just because there was a show to be seen. REO played first, an 90 min set, and were great. Journey took an hour to set up, with Direct TV and all. The crowd walked out towards the end, which was tough, because they did sound very good that night.

Arrival was released in Japan in October 2000 and in the US in April 2001. The NYE show in 2000 (12/31/00) in Phoenix was a precursor to the US release.

They didn't perform NYE 1999, and they were in Reno on NYE 1998. As they spent most of 2000 in the studio that's got to be the show from the day after the Vegas DVD gig.

(As for why I remember all of this, well besides having been at some of these shows, I have a tendency to remember some of the stupidest shit....)

A lot of them were, yes. It's the only Journey show I've been to in the last 7.5 years that I saw people leaving in droves. Most were dressed to kill and obviously out for a party. The entire row in front of me was empty most of the night -- a friend of mine came up to visit during REO's set from her seat further back and wound up staying there all night since no one ever showed up for the seats! They were pretty decent seats too. Once you got beyond the front few rows -- where people were REALLY having a good time, the crowd just vaporized and the energy level was really weird.

I still say they should have filmed the show from a month earlier in Reno. That was flat out one of the best shows I've seen. And the response of the band when fans sang along to "All the Way" and "Higher Place" (which hadn't been released in the US yet) was beyond priceless. Funny thing is the majority of the folks singing actually HAD the CD from Japan, not Napster!

Ruby, you are a dominating bitch, you know that?

Meechelle, the thing that grabs me is there is no Arrival except the 2 mins of Livin to do. It might not be NYE.....

You are too full of knowledge.
