OT:Question For NealIsGod (and anyone else)

I meant to ask you a while back how you felt about Tony Mills becoming the singer for TNT? It sounds like he will be leaving Shy to do this, although there is no reason the two cannot both continue. I know you are a big fan of Shy but I do not know your feelings on TNT. I struggle with the idea of anyone replacing Tony Harnell, but I figure if I could give Journey a shot after Perry I certainly can give TNT a shot after Tony.

Like Journey, they at least are hiring a singer with the same first name as their last one.

I know NOTHING about TNT. I love one Shy album, Sunset and Vine, which I would put up against ANY Journey album -- it's that good. Do you have that CD, Dave?

I like Tony Mills voice, but don't love it. I probably won't make an effort to hear him with TNT, but if I stumble upon it will give it a chance.

Did TNT have any hits?

I don't know if they are hits but I liked these songs:

As Far as the Eye Can See
10,000 Lovers
Everyone's A Star
Intuition

I heard most of the SHY samples you have offered. I did not care so much for Tony Mills' voice. Something grated on me with it...just a little.

As for TNT, their biggest hit was 10,000 Lovers from Tell No Tales. That was the first record I ever bought based on ONE song. And at 34 minutes (or so) it is still one of my favorites! Ronnie is a brilliant guitarist and Tony is amazing. Intuition was their follow up to Tell No Tales and you may have heard a song or two from that. Sadly, the band could not maintain an audience in America so they stopped touring here. I never had a chance to see them play but have heard some amazing stories. I know people who actually fly to Norway to see the band live. The band continued through the 90's (despite breaking up once) and changed their sound a little. Like other bands, some of their fans LOVED it and some HATED it. But they returned to form about 4 years ago and have put out two amazing CDs and an EP. Check out Andrew's reviews.

Tony Harnell has also been a part of the band Westworld (releasing 3 CDs that kept getting better than the last) and Starbreaker. Sadly, from what I have heard, Starbreaker will not be able to continue because their record label owned the name. Hopefully the participants will reunite under a different name. Starbreaker had a very strong CD as well.

I would say that Tony Harnell is more of a hard rock screamer than Tony Mills (at least from what I have heard in Shy). But it might be alright. I will give TNT a chance because I try not to be hypocritical. But I do not know if Tony Mills' vocals will keep me interested and Ronnie's guitar will not be enough....well, maybe it will. I love Ronnie's guitar-work.
