In case you want to explore genre or artist similarities yourselves, you should check out Pandora, a music geneaology internet radio which allows you to name a song or an artist which you like, and it then plays music by that artist as well as music which the radio's database thinks sounds similar (it does hit the mark most times).
It's free (when you get the ad version). I myself have discovered a multitude of bands there which I never heard of before including: Honeymoon Suite, Orion The Hunter, Aldo Nova and others. Plus discovering new features of bands I already knew, which is always cool.
