Good work Matt!

Thanks Deb. I'm glad I wasn't being tedious and repetitive in vain. Now...how do I convert the other philistines?
I love ROR, it's a bit more adult oriented, but it's only natural w/ the band aging (aren't we all) I liked an old quote from Tom Petty about how his lyrics have changed, he said, "well it's kind of rediculous to be 50 years old and still singing about taking your girl to the prom"
Yes - that's a good point, RedWingFan. The mood of ROR was influenced by divorce, bereavement and disillusionment, wasn't it? All the things that many people in their late 30s have to deal with. There wasn't the optimism ("Don't Stop Believin'") or the hedonism ("Anyway You Want it") which the earlier albums had.
Having said that...there was always a sense that Perry was having no luck with the ladies and was in "pain, pain, pain" about some girl or other. But even that seemed more like youthful frustration than the weary resignation of many of the ROR songs.
