Oh what an intelligent reply...uh sure.

Okay, let's use YOUR logic (what there is of it) and refute what you just said about Froy and see if it boomerangs back on you, all righty? Great...let's begin.

1) Okay, you used the phrase "go forwards not backwards" which would IMPLY that Journey is moving forwards. Except for the fact that they have a NEW lead singer, they are NOT moving forwards. They are moving LATERALLY (that means side-to-side).

2) You also said "everything is organic, it changes and develops." Wonderful. I don't see that happening with Journey. I see a group of EXTREMELY talented musicians/singers STAGNATING, not developing.

3) You state "...for the sake of Jeff and where Journey are NOW, not last year..." Okay...uh...excuse me, but there's a problem...except for the fact that they have a new lead singer who is ACTUALLY singing, they are in virtually the SAME place NOW as they were LAST YEAR.

How does ANY of the above constitute MOVING ON? I could resort to trash-talk and expletives like you did, but I'm afraid if I did that, I would A) sink to your level and B) confuse you as to the point of my post. Besides, nothing beats reading something like you posted and allowing the stupidity of it to speak for itself.

Here's what SOME folks on this board do NOT at all get (or their blinders are on WAY too tight):

There are a bunch of us who CARE about Journey. We care about what Journey is BECOMING and in our estimation, that is not a good thing.

Journey has the abso-f*ckin-lute capacity to be GREAT with NEW music and NEW music IN concert, but they continually show us that they ONLY know how to play the CLASSIC tunes. Journey is NOT moving on. They have NOT moved on and it's doubtful that they WILL move on. Do you get it? This is not a bunch of crybabies who necessarily want Steve Perry to come back to the fold. While some might, the TRUE reality for many of us is that just hiring a new lead singer will not necessarily MOVE Journey forward. It's VERY possible (and quite probable) that Journey will NOT use Jeff's GIFTS to their fullest potential and he will wind up being yet another guy who comes to the stage night after night and regals the crowd with songs from yesteryear. If THAT is what Journey wants to do, then I will walk away and I have no problem with that, nor do I will a grudge about it (and in fact, I'm holding no grudge now about any of it).

Journey needs to LEAVE the classics (or most of them) and actually MOVE on with NEW material on CD and IN concert. NO ONE did/does the classics better than Perry anyway, so Journey might as well stop trying to prove it, because it's a lost cause. (Please note I used the word "better," not the phrase "as good as.")

I just think that Journey is capable of SO much more, but I have a feeling in my gut that they will NOT go for it. THAT is the part for which I'm fighting.

You just saved me about an hour of typing and you did a better job than I would of also.

You may not like it, in which case you have the human right to not indulge in it.

How much new music at a concert is enough? IMO, 3 to 4 songs in a 14 song set is enough. I know many go to the concerts to hear the new stuff. I personally go to hear both. I enjoy hearing the roar of the crowd as they recognize a song as it is beginning to be played. On the 30th anniversary tour, they played 4 tunes off Gens plus the pre-perry tunes that I personally had never heard live to that point and a few other rare ones. The Red 13 tour they played State of Grace and The Time and threw in Higher Place also. Before that it was Higher Place and All the Way, with Deen doing Still They Ride or Mother Father, that was a first for me hearing MF live. I have seen them do La Raza, Precious Time, and even be joined by Michael Carabello and do a Santana tune. And I have enjoyed every minute of every show, new music, cover, and old.

Another thing to mention, at the show I was at this year, there were a lot of younger fans (16 - 25). And when I say alot, I mean the majority. These classics may be familiar live to alot of us "older" fans, but this new generation is seeing and hearing alot of these "classics" live for the first time. And the fact that Journey is attracting young fans is at least a move in the right direction.

Again, IMO, 3 to 4 new songs in a 14 song set is enough. It should be enough to satisfy the old fans and to give the new fans a taste to be followed up on by buying the cd or now downloading it from the internet.

With all due respect, Eric, without those "clowns," this place would be another BT, with everyone pumping up the current line-up and towing the "party" line. I don't mind the back and forth, the give and take and the dissenting opinions. I just think the opinions should be said with respect...on BOTH sides of the coin.

I disagree Fred. The supporters on here are by no means Koolaid supporters. Froy really doesn't offer up much. He says Journey sucks now...and that is it. He said it, we debated...now he should go do something he enjoys.

I've been fighting and losing this battle since 1998. I've begged for them to take the rubble from the cracked stone and grind it up into powder - make concrete out of it and pave a new road.

I blame the fans. The fans want to hear the DD or else they'll go for beer. For whatever reason JOURNEY has been compelled to serve this fan base. Have they just been trying to save/rebuild a floundering fan base? I don't know. If that's the case I'm not so sure that this fan base was worth saving.

I hope to see JOURNEY look into the future AND make a move across the Rubicon!

Fred, you deserve some abuse starting this thread with a somewhat pathetic open request to Steve Perry - how naive do you want to get? Like many members of many bands over many years, he has moved on. He just doesn't want to do this anymore and the sooner you get this through your psuedo-romantic thick skull the better. They are a fantastic bunch of players who had their hey day 25 years ago and have lived off it ever since in various guises - the classics are their bread and butter and I still love them for it - I wouldn't even mind if they threw in 'Best of What I got', but that would be sacrilige eh?.

What does Coverdale play - Still of the Night, fool for your lovin', how about Def Leppard...Animal, Pour Some Sugar, er, Toto...Hold the line, Rosanna, the list is endless.

Journey have basically got another very capable singer in JSS who may even foster some new material - bonus! Why knock it, why moan, why write idiotic letters to Perry asking him to reclaim something he relinquished years ago - do you think he gives a toss? Not a bit. They were never going to hire an under par singer. You just have to let go and enjoy where they are now.

I bet a penny to a pound if you ran a straw-poll of 'fans' whether they go to see Journey to hear 'Seperate Ways' or the chance of some new stuff, they will always play safe. Guaranteed. They don't want to go home thinking they have been robbed. Your small-minded luddite view will leave you embittered and unfulfilled. Get you head out of your arse and enjoy a band that still play the music you like. They are knocking on 60 soon, and some will be shuffling from this mortal coil - go see them while they can still do it.

And I still stand by my last post to you and your incessant whinging.

That being said its time for Perry to get some balls and take his job back

This is now a joke
Jeff go back to singing Queen you did fine there

You can't yell JRNY songs you have to sing them
Even Perry yelled them on the Strange Journey tour until he settled down

Lets go Perry get off your ass.
