So a bit of cheering for a couple innings at a game shouldn't have any effect.

He's almost 60 and no longer "the voice"

If he had his way, the last recorded notes from Journey would have been "Ask the Lonely" on the Greatest Hits album. Don't even say TBF (which was over a decade ago now anyway). That was done because of the record company only.

Perry has been holding Journey hostage for 20 years now. A total waste of time and talent. That angers and sickens me at the same time. So while I am a fan of his music, I also feel he has totally let his fans down. His choice, and that is his right. However now you know why all the hero worship of him annoys me. It's like a bunch of people waiting for the 2nd coming of the messiah or something.

OK, I'm confused...

If he is no longer "the voice", and that's why he's not singing, then how is "his choice, and that is his right" letting his fans down. In other words, it sounds as if you're suggesting is one sentence that he is not singing because he is unable to perform, but then later that it is simply that he chose to walk away. How is he holding them 'hostage'?

I'm sure you know much more about this history than I could ever hope to, I'm still just trying to figure it all out. I would personally LOVE to see at least a reconciliation, if not a reunion. I'd also love to see him prove those in doubt wrong.

But I agree, he sounded horrible at the World Series.

donnaplease, i wouldn't take any notice of what is being said here regarding Perry not being the voice anymore. The only person who knows if Steve Perry can sing anymore is Steve Perry himself, and maybe a couple of friends etc. Also, in a couple of the World Series clips he sounded fine to me.

Yeah, Perry was in the band at the right time, but that time is over. I love Steve Perry and would love to hear something from him...but really don't think we are going to for whatever his reasons are, in fact it would just be bizarre at this point so much time has passed.*** I'm still a fan though *** BUT, when this Classic Journey gig is up....cannot wait to hear JSS take this band over the top and make it uniquely his own!!!! 8)

donnaplease,

I WOULDN'T take ANY of AR's information about Steve Perry, he is certainly NO EXPERT on Perry!! AR is just another Perry hater, that's all!

I agree with the other fan who said that the ONLY ONE who REALLY KNOWS if Perry can sing is Steve Perry HIMSELF, and those real close to him may know. However that being said, I still believe Perry CAN SING, and I'll NEVER doubt him!!!

And for ME, Perry will ALWAYS remain the "true voice" of Journey!!!

Actually, I want to hear any factual information, and AR will be my host in a few weeks, so I look forward to talking more with him. But you're right, we're all just full of shit, 'cause none of us really know the 100% truth. There's always 3 sides to every story (and many more if you read on this and other boards).

It's a double-edged sword...I've been watching my DVDs and listening a lot more to my growing collection of Journey music as my anticipation of the Baltimore concert grows, and although I'm really looking forward to seeing JSS and the rest of the band, I know it won't be fully what I expect, cause to me all those songs are Steve Perry's. I have NO DOUBT that JSS will be awesome though!!!

Like a lot of you guys, I'm looking forward to new music--if Journey is headed in a new direction, let's go, and leave the classics where they belong, in the past. I guess what I'm saying is it's hard to forget about Perry when nearly everything tied to the current Journey is still a huge part Steve Perry. Hell, I was on their website tonight, and the music playing had all SP in it. If SA (or JSS for that matter) is the new lead singer and has been singing those songs for months (years for SA) then why can't the SP music be replaced by some of their vocals?

I just truly don't think the band wants to distance themselves from Steve Perry, because of the success he brought them, and probably still brings them. JMO

Eat shit squirt, I don't give a rats ass what Joe Benson says... Perry can pull it together for a few bars or even a song, but no how no way can he do a concert and in no way could he do a whole tour.
That's the truth.

BTW you sound like a little kid. "YOU ARE WRONG !!!" sounds like a little kid throwing a temper tantrum. This ain't the play ground here. Go grow up and come back later.

Joe Benson also said, "There is absolutely no way that anybody can lipsynche Journey songs." When speadking about "tapegate"

So, whatever...

I'm not an expert on any human being other than myself, my wife and my daughter. However, I am VERY informed. More than you - believe it.

And I'm really not a Perry hater, per se. I hate some things that he has done, I hate the fact that some act like he is the greatest singer of all time (he isn't), but he was the original vocalist on some of my favorite songs. Would never deny that.

In ur opinion he isn't the greatest singer of all time. But that is a subjective opinion. Everyone has a different opinion. My husband thinks Bruce Springsteen is the greatest singer of all time. That's his opinion. I do not agree. Mine is that Steve Perry is.

So essentially, when u say u hate that some act like he is the greatest singer of all time, u are saying u hate that we have our own opinions on that subject because it doesn't agree w/ur opinion. The world would be a very boring place if everyone agreed on every topic.

Why can't u just allow people to have their own opinions & just express urs? Why do u have to run us down for our opinions & say u hate it?
