I just wanted to comment on the Arrival "leftovers" thing. I think that calling them that kinda implies that they weren't good enough to make the album. I know that both the band and crew that worked on the album were shocked that "Walking Away From The Edge" didn't make it and so am I.

I think it's a very beautiful and deep song, and had I been John Kalodner or whoever the A&R guy was that made that decision, I definitely would have included it on the album.

"World Gone Wild" originally wasn't included either and once again I can't see how anyone would make a decision to leave it off. It's melodic and heavy/hard rocking and one of my favorite Journey songs ever and Neal's solo is simply awesome.

I know that all the songs you guys are talking about haven't been specifically confirmed by the band as coming from the Arrival sessions, but those two have been and originally didn't make the cut.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that maybe the term "leftover" has a kind of negative connotation.

Yeah JoePa, I saw the disclaimer. Thanks.
Surprisingly, I was on vacation from one of my jobs but I just knew I would end up spending all my time here if I signed on. I wanted to do something else while I was off...:D

RE: Leftovers
I guess we should just call them "leftoffs"....

I think it depends.
"Nothing Comes Close" sounds exactly like what it is - A re-worked Bad English leftover.
"Gone Crazy" in its current form prolly doesn't live up to the Journey cannon. When it was initially written for Steve and sounded more Journey-esque, it might have been a winner.
"Its Never Too Late" is great.
"Walking Away from the Edge" is better than most of the ballads that actually did make the cut on Arrival.
"I Can Breathe" is not a classic by any means, but makes for easy-enough listening.
"World Gone Wild" is solid, great solo at the end. Though the opening vocal of "See the Signs.." sounds too identical to the Seperate Ways opening of "Here we Stand...".
"I think we should all sue this women for depriving us of our God given right to go down with a clear mind, and good thoughts." - Stu, Consumate Pussy Eater

Correction...It's better than ALL the ballads that made the cut for "Arrival".

I guess Neal doesn't want us to forget all his great licks. Or maybe they're too good to only use once! :P :D

I know this is a late response to a quote of yours Jermey, but if I'm not mistaken, that guitar solo at the end of World Gone Wild shades of Destiny to it. But was surprised the WGW was left off. I'm not sure when I Can Breathe was written, but I felt they could've switched off one of the tracks on either Arrival or Generations.

But going back to Generations and just the feel of it, I resequenced my Generations CD with a song off of Red 13, cut a few tracks out and the whole thing flows better to me. I put side numbers on there because my brain still behaves as if it listens to a whole ablum as if its on two sides even though we listen to them as CD's/MP3 playlists. Anyways, here goes:

Side 1
Faith in the Heartland
Place in the Heart
Every Generation
Better Life
I Can Breathe

Side 2
Never Too Late
Keep them Out of Harms Way
Self Defense
Better Together
Beyond the Clouds

Just my two cents

<<edited after Journey28 correctly called out a goof on a song title. I meant Better Together. This is what happens when you're recovering from surgery and pain meds goof your concentration>>

Wow that's a really cool idea. I'm gonna listen to the songs in that order tomorrow. It seems to me that it would flow better that way as well.
