This is easy...Keep Neal, Ross, and Jonathan away from lead vocals, period! I'm very okay with Deen singing lead on a track or two, because he actually has the ability to do so! I realize I beat up on these three guys for their putrid singing abilities, but I am serious about this. I hope that Journey doesn't pull another "Generations" on us. I think if Jonathan does some of his amazing songwriting and Neal continues to be the guitar god that he is and if Ross keeps smiling and looking goofy (okay, so he has to play some bass too) and Deen chips in with a lead vocal or two and Jeff takes his rightful place, belting out some new material, they could produce one kickass CD.
I really hope they also stay true to what we all know as the classic Journey sound. I think attempting to completely re-invent themselves, at this stage of their career, would be an enormous mistake and would alienate many of their fans. I realize that some Journey fans are begging for a "harder rocking" Journey and loved Soul SirkUS. I wasn't one of those fans. Journey is Journey and they shouldn't screw with a formula that brought them the success they once had in the music world! On a positive note, I swore I would NEVER purchase another Journey CD again, after the abortion what was "Generations". I am now anxiously awaiting their next release! Let's hope they find a professional studio to record the next CD in, so it doesn't have the "Generations" sound of being recorded in Neal's garage!
