I thought Henley and Patty Smyth sounded pretty good together. I agree with you on the whole Stevie Nicks thing. She is viewed in many circles as a legend woman rocker, but has never been my cup of tea. I'll take Ann Wilson's vocals (Heart) ANY DAY! That woman could sing her ass off!

Ann's amazing. But the funny thing is, women rock vocalists were just never my cup of tea. There are some great ones out there, but for some reason my favorite women vocalists never fell into that catagory. Give me any of these over any of the greatest hard rock singers any day:
• Oleta Adams
• Roberta Flack
• Tina Turner
• Sade
• Bjork
• Bonnie Raitt
• There's an amazing contemporary gospel singer with one of the best voices I've ever heard. Can't recall her name.
Jason 980 wrote:thats a dumb ass idea! Just because you like a certain singer does not mean that everyone else does. Her voice doesn't even match their music, and if there was to be a duet it would have to be someone with a lower register.

I know it's been thrown around on this board in the past, but I think Journey needs to make themselves musically relevant again without the aid of gimmicks! This isn't the NFL..."trick plays" aren't going to get the job done!

That band sucks. I have the latest CD. It makes me want to buy a box of razor blades and cut myself, buy a gun and kill my past offender and then pull out my Boston collection and hear some real melody, harmonies, and un-ProTool'd guitars. I make records like that for young bands. It is all slice, dice and depression. I have enough worries without spending good money listening to a clueless chick sing about hers.

Take away the production in ProTools, etc, and you will have much less enjoyment. 90% of their sound is manufactured. I listen to bands/artists like this: If we were bombed back to the stone age, would this band be able to be musical? There is a difference between making music and rythmic noise sliced and diced on a digital audio workstation. Industry-wide, talent is down, and the bands today cannot make musical magic acoustically in real time.
Jeremey wrote:One of the most amazing things I've ever seen a band due to ignite some fire in their sound was when Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith came across Oleta Adams, singing in a piano bar in Kansas City, and brought her in and wrote a whole record around her voice and piano. No one would have ever put together the music of Tears for Fears with the soulful bluesy voice of someone like Adams, but it was amazing, and they pretty much had their best record ever.
Nothing like that would work for Journey, and their situation is nowhere close to being similar, but I use that because 1) I like to talk about Oleta Adams, and (2) it goes to show that thinking outside the box does work for bands.
