A Question About Neal

Postby donnaplease » Sat Dec 23, 2006 2:54 pm

Okay, I've been giving this a lot of thought, and I need some help...

We all know there are many diverse opinions about Journey and their decisions over the years. Since the 'glory days' of the band (78-86???) things have been somewhat disappointing for many fans and I'm sure the members of the band. We've all heard about how unhappy Neal Schon was with the direction the band was headed when SP was kinda leading things. He wanted to play more rock and less ballads, etc. So here's my question...

Do you think, knowing what Neal knows now, that he would return to 'that' Journey if it meant having the kind of success today that they had back then??? Would he choose the success and popularity that SP could bring to the band even if he had to continue with the frustrations that he's spoken of?? It would almost be like 'selling your soul to the devil' I guess for Neal.

I'm looking forward to what this new lineup is gonna bring us. Neal intrigues me though, I can't figure him out (obviously we all know how excited he is about JSS joining Journey). So would those of you who may have some insight into this (Deano???? Anyone else???) please share your thoughts?

I think Neal would love to do that, but Perry won't even consider it.

I think Neal would do it again with the whole Perry thing. In the BTM, Neal stated how nice it was to have girls in the audience and radio play and success. Sometimes it is a give and take, compromise situation.

Sure, you can be a strict musician/artist and play in your room all day to your four walls, or you can compromise with band mates and play sell out arenas and have smash hits and a legacy thanks to a singer with an ego problem.

Yea, but I think we all know that Neal has wanted to rock hard for a long time. He's enjoyed the success of Journey and will continue with that, but given the chance, I think, IMHO, he would love to do something HARD rocking. I don't blame him. The boy's got talent, and a penchant for harder music than Journey has allowed him. This might just be his chance. This is his time, let's all let him rock for once. We might all just be facing a new Journey. I'm There. You can't turn it up loud enough for me. Go Jeff, Go Neal!!

Here's my question to you...

If you knew on November 9th how you'd feel on November 10th, would you STILL have partied as hard as you did??? I say, "HELL YEAH!!!"

Yes. Totally. No question.
The ball is not in his court though.
The ball is on the other side and someone chose to take said ball and go home.

Because Neal isn't stupid and he knows damn well what it would do for this band to have Perry back.
They wouldn't be co-headlining anything, they would have their own show, and the records wouldn't be marked 3.99 at the record store.
(not an exaggeration - saw Gens marked 3.99 at the store yesterday)

I am quite sure he would do it in a microsecond but as i said, the ball is not in his court.
It's up to you know who.

I think Neal answered that question back in 1996....with the release of the ballad during that failed Reunion.

Perry would be back in Journey in a second no questions asked if he really wanted it. But im afraid those days are gone. I really think his voice is shot Live and he is doesnt want to destroy what he built in the past.

I dont blame him.

you cant recreate the past.... only try and live up to it... and he knows that wont happen.

Thanks for your input guys. I don't want to make this about Steve Perry, though (even though I am a self-professed "loon"). I'm trying to get into Neal's head on this one. Playing devil's advocate, so to speak.
