You want to know why Steve is “being thrown under the bus” and the rest of the band is getting off “Scott Free”? Because for people like me, the end justifies the means.
I don’t really care if the whole band was in on “whatever” was going on with Augeri’s voice. I never really liked him fronting Journey, so having Jeff in and Steve out is what I have been waiting for. I am excited about Journey again. I haven’t felt this for the band since Perry left.
Before I get lamb basted for “speaking negatively about a former member”, I am not saying anything different than the Augeri crowd showing their preference of him over Perry or Soto.
This is JUST a musical group, people. It is like saying I prefer Peyton Manning over Donnovan McNabb. If I didn’t like a certain quarterback, I don’t really care what they have to do to trade him or buy out his contract, I want someone else in there throwing the ball.
I doubt that anyone here has been invited to the Augeri’s house for dinner, so how can you take it so personally like you KNOW him? You don’t – you only know the person he is in the public eye, just as I don’t know any of the band. That doesn’t really bother me at all. IT IS JUST A GROUP OF MEN WHO WRITE AND PLAY MUSIC. Great music, yes, but they aren’t gods. And I doubt they are close personal friends with anyone who posts here.
So, as harsh as that sounds, that is why I, personally, am not bashing the rest of the guys. Augeri’s voice and persona was the one I didn’t care for. His voice went out on him, like a quarterback’s arm. He’s gone, and we have a “gunner” in by the name of Jeff Scott Soto.
Go ahead, let me have it. I am just answering questions as honestly as I can.

A better sports analogy would be the 1919 Chicago Black Sox: Some people cheated and everyone paid for it.

Yes Eric it is sad. I wish the people who are so up in arms about Augeri being replaced would realize that the band had to choose between continuing with tape, quitting altogether, or bringing in Jeff. Continuing with Augeri live was just not an option. Maybe they feel that the band just should have quit. I felt that way when they brought Augeri in, but I'm very happy now to have them continue with Jeff. Maybe they'll come around eventually.

Ok- I'm gonna stick my neck out a bit here....
*Perhaps* it happened like this:
Tapegate came out- Steve went live. It obviously didn't work. Now- what if Steve knew he couldn't continue singing Journey tunes and AGREED to step down? He saw that with JSS up there, he had an "out" as it were. He could leave, and not leave the band in the lurch.
I'm not saying it happened this way- It's just a possibility that hasn't been brought to the table during all of this. It still doesn't obsolve them of the whole "tapegate" thing. But it could have happened. Maybe. possibly?????

Okay... Now that I see it in black and white, you have changed my thinking on that. If anyone is going to pay the price, it stands to reason that they ALL should.
I 100% agree with that, regardless of how happy I am that Soto is in.
In that regard, I have to back pedal a bit. I am still glad Augeri is out, but if they are ALL guilty, it doesn't seem fair that HE is the only one getting reamed.

Except...that's where the cash money comes in $$$$$ for Augeri and because Journey isn't just those 5 guys, its roadies, lawyers, technicians, secretaries, all tied up together in this huge business....the show must go on so.....plus they probably all wanted to quit and couldn't when things turned ugly, Journey is bigger than any of them.

Abitaman wrote:I blame the whole band, not Steve. Yes Steve was the one with the vocal problem, but he band pushed him with no time off. Since Steve's voice was called into question, he was the escape goat. 2006 was suppose to be some time off for him, but it didn't happen. He should have said no, I am taking time off. But then Jeff would have been in sooner, from the bad feedback I have gotten from some here about the band and Steve. Sad to see a good man go down. But life is like that. I just wished Andrew could have gotten some word on tapegate, so it could finally be laid to rest. Doesn't seem like that will ever happen. It is over, they ALL made a mistake, get over it and move on. But some will not. Sad isn't it-ERIC

I guess it's possible KC, but why would he have held up the official announcement for so long if he was agreeable to the change? All that could have been worked out while the guys finished their tour and the announcement made a month ago. I would think anyway.

knoxy, ya know you have said this before,,, then you go away for 2 months,

you run yourself off the board.......

Well, my only thoughts on that ( and I did wonder about that myself - if he was agreeable, what took so long???) is that any time you get lawyers involved in anything...........![]()
