Dime posters HATE mp3 compression and I respect that as much as possible.

Please post it when possible for the internet/technology idiots like myself.

Journey uses taped background vocals and that's okay with everyone??? Isn't that kind of hypocritical? How come nobody's crucifying them?

I personally think it's really lame. I'd rather see them add a 6th musician onstage for live shows (lots of bands tour with auxilliary musicians...hell, Fleetwood Mac has more extra musicians than band members on tour) and between the 6th guy and Deen, you wouldn't need the tapes. Find a guy (or girl) with ridiculous range and have him/her play extra keys or rhythm guitar, but mostly have them there to sing harmonies. Sure, it wouldn't sound 100% like the records, but it'd be all live.

I understand the supposed need for B-vox tapes, since the studio records are Perry overdubbing his voice into 3 and 4 part harmonies, and no one else in the band except Deen can recreate those. But I think adding an extra voice onstage would eliminate the need for any kind of technical vocal assistance.

A lot of bands do this, I know Toto uses a lot of it and it bugs me with them too. It doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the show (like, say a lip-synching lead singer would) but it just comes off as really lame, especially when there's still people onstage pretending to sing the stuff you know is coming from a tape (like the backup vocals in "Pamela").

Well Journey does more or less "pretend" to sing along to backing tracks. In my opinion only Deen has the good backing vocals. Jon + Ross sing some pretty gnarly backing vocals (especially Ross). I should toss up some isolated clips of everybody singing backup on Lights, its pretty obvious the main backing vocals is all pre-recorded.

This might be a good one to put out to stud forever. This song must be REALLY hard to pull off though the 4 JDouble shows I have he does it seemingly without flaw.
And if there was a way to actually guage wich individual number produced the most damage to Augeri, I'd put money on this one. The boots both Augeri and Castronovo are audibly killing themselves to get through the song.

And I realize it's Deen's favorite song to drum by, but take a bullet for the team and tell Neal it can be ixsnayed or else JSS may not be visiting you on your riser 8 years from now.

I think it's time to drop Escape from the setlist - it's too high for him - not sure if the same's true for Seperate Ways (might be AWYWI) - there's certainly one song in the last three where he's really struggling right at the end.

On saying that it's much better than the early boots where JSS sounds like he was having something exorcised from him on some tunes. If he keeps on getting better it'll be really good by March.

... or maybe they can get a singer that can sing the catalog.
I don't know, that's kind of radical I guess.

I wonder if they ought to have gone for someone in late 20s, early thirties rather than someone who's already close to Augeri's age when the problems started??

Still as I said earlier he is better than he was and if they pick the setlist carefully with some ROR stuff where Perry was getting on a bit I reckon it'll be a good tour next year.
