Judging from Andrew's interviews, it might seem as though Jonathan Cain still wanted Augeri in (that's MY guess though).

Wouldn't the majority rule? That's still 2 against 3. Perhaps Deen's vote sided with SA and Cain.
Surely they weren't dumb enough to have management be an equal member, though that was a good policy when HH was still involved.

From everything I've gathered, Azoff's power may very well surpass that.
Neal is influential, but ultimately kowtows to the whims of Mngt.

Rumor has it the almighty Neal Schon was reduced to giving the ultimatum of "Augeri or me" in order to get SA left out in the cold for good.

If this is true--management being given that much power over the band--NS and JC have far and amazingly surpassed their previous idiocy in business dealings.
As for the second point, why did he not give the ultimatum before the shit of tapegate hit the fan?

Don't know, however, it is a FACT that Neal wanted a change for sometime now.
He read the writing on the wall (the increasing reliance on tapes) and unsuccesfully tried to craft his own golden parachute in the form of SoulSirkus.

Not debating those two points, just questioning why he would give an ultimatim after it got to the point that a change would obviously have to occur rather than doing it earlier in an effort to prevent things from getting to that point.

There is that school of thought that NS was lobbying for a change but actually did not have the requisite pull within the band he founded and leads to this day to actually effect it.

That would be kinda surprising but it would, as NMT alluded to a few post back, speak to HH's point about Schon/Cain having allowed themselves to be hamstrung in the power-broking dep't of their band.

Then who is to blame for the shitty decisions that have been made over the last 7+ years?

Does Mngmnt. still have a say in the songs that make it to CD? God, I hope not. I thought Journey was free of that when they left Sony.

I still do not place much faith in Azoff and Co. I realize the band was hampered by Augeri's limitations, but I feel there could still have been more of a push. How about a spot on a pre-superbowl show. Hell most those bands lip on those shows anyway. How about working to get a CD tune on the soundtrack of a major motion picture (like the old days). Explore all avenues, leave no rock unturned. I don't think Azoff has done this for the band. Quite frankly, I am very surprised that Journey has kept his management. Now that JSS is in, no more excuses for not promoting these guys everywhere, all the time. Non-stop effert is what I would expect from a Mangement Team being payed quite well I would assume.
