This is so sad for us Pens' fans but it looks like they will head to
Kansas City soon barring a miracle...
They shoulda took Cuban's calls years ago!
The guy's from Pittsburgh, LOVES Hockey, is the type
of owner EVERY player would love to have and
HAS TONS OF MONEY!!!

Pens stay in Pittsburgh, make the eastern conference finals this year(lose to the fuckin Devils), and then next year, go for it all.

Cuban is a major asshole. I love the way he disses David Stern, but he has publicly bashed hockey in favour of basketnall. Look no further than the current Comissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettmen. He is your proof that basketball people should stay the Hell away from hockey.

and the wires...

The Penguins have declared an impasse in negotiations with
government officials over construction of a new arena and
will aggressively explore relocating the team to a new city.
Penguins co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle notified
Gov. Ed Rendell, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato
and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl about their decision in a letter today.

"Unfortunately, we still don't have a deal and are faced with mounting
uncertainty that an agreement can be reached in a time frame that is
realistic for our organization," the letter states. "Therefore, we have no
choice but to declare an impasse and to notify NHL Commissioner Gary
Bettman that we will aggressively explore relocation."

Hopefully this is just Lemieux is just trying to flex
some muscle to get this shit done quick.
Basically, the big hang up is financing of the new arena.
The state and team officials have a plan in place for
$270 mill. in costs. But if the construction goes over that,
an agreement can't be reached on who would be responsible
for the extra cash.

Perfect solution:

Mario, call Cuban.
BEG him to become a part-owner and
ask for some cash!

I DO think Mario is flexing his muscle. Tell you what, THAT guy is a hero. The NHL should do whatever it takes to help him out. The league will find a way to keep them there.

270 million? Is that enough? GM Place in Vancouver costs 430M (US) and Staples center was over 450.

Well, the original Arena pan came in around $290 Mill.
now here's where the City/State REALLY fucked up.
The state finally legalized slots and there were bids for the license.
One company, Isle Of Capri, was going to build their casino on the Mellon Arean site
and then COMPLETELY FINANCE the construction of this new $290 mill Arena
and let the Pens play there Rent Free!!! Total no-brainer but the State gave the license
to someone else that has promised $7 mill a year for 30 years.
Tragic...

Yea, I hope Lemieux is flexing.
And you're right. Lemieux is a hero to this city
and the game of Hockey. We need more guys like him, Gretz,
Messier, Francis, Bourque...

Look at it this way...if KC wants them and Pitt won't do what it takes, why SHOULD Pittsburgh have a team.

It's been decades since the KC Scouts had to pack up. A lot changes in that spanse of time.

And any city WILL support a team who, like the Pens, are among the youngest and fastest rising (and soon best) in the league.

If Pittsburgh's too stupid to, move.

Keep the Penguin name and identity though. Changing that would be inexcusable and without reason.

When teams move, in most cases, the identity/logo should stay put. Let the new city establish it's own history.
