Start doing some "Crazy", "Purple rain" and may a few others of his own once they get back home and going again on the road? I think it would be interesting to hear. He did it in Swedan with SS, so obviously Neal isn't against it.....Neal shreds on Purple Rain!!! Found that today too....Just wondering whatcha think....Would like to hear!!!

Sounds good to me. I think Jeff and Neal need to get their asses on the road and start doing the "club" circuit. Just pop in around the country and jam. I KNOW Neal digs that shit, and Jeff, well that fucker NEVER gets tired.

I'd be totally against Journey doing Purple Rain. Partly because it's such a crap song...but mainly because there are too many neglected classics in the Journey catalogue.

But if JSS and Neal performed it outside of Journey it wouldn't bother me at all.

I think Neal and Jeff need to keep their asses OFF the road and concentrate on recording an album worthy of the Journey name at long last. Enough with the club tours and half-baked side projects!

Yeah...ok. Neal's gonna sit still. Neal needs the release that the NON-Journey road gives him. When I saw SS in Chicago, I'd never seen him so happy. And there were only about 200 people there. He's been playing the SAME shit for so long that I bet the road gives him an artistic opportunity to play what HE wants to. Hey, I just threw an idea out there. What I want is what is best for the next Journey album, and I think Neal needs to let out any frustrations that playing the same shit over and over may have built up. If he doesn't have any, fuck it....rest and record. But I doubt that is the case. The man simply can't sit still...and I love him for that. I doubt ANY musician has logged more playing time in the last 35 years. Even when Journey was down, he kept busy.

I've never liked it. TVL! Lightweight pop-soul masquerading as a serious rock song...performed by the most overrated artist of the 1980s.

And I've never forgiven the British heavy metal magazine Kerrang! for puttting that ponce on the front cover with the headline: "Is This The New Hendrix?" The letters page was deluged with complaints for months afterwards and rightly so.

I secretly like Little Red Corvette, though...a bit...I suppose. :)

Prince is/was NOT overrated. The dude is an incredible artist. One of the best of the 80's, without a doubt.

I hear what you're saying St John...but equally Schon's restlessless and inability to sit with himself has led to a noticeable decline in the quality of his output over the years. The last thing we all want is some knocked-off Journey album recorded in between a heavy tour schedule for his solo projects.

I dig Prince. I think he's great, have all his work. No, I dont love every single song, of course, but I dig most of it. He's doesnt show it alot in his recorded music, but that cat can seriously play too. Puts on a great live show. Ugh!, I hope this difference of opinion doesnt cause a rift between us!! :(

Oh...I don't know...all this obsession with live shows puzzles me to be honest. I reckon albums are a million times more important. I mean...I get to see Journey or whoever for two hours each year at best. Big deal.

Whereas the albums are on the playlist every day. Well, the albums recorded before Neal spread himself too thinly and spent more time touring old songs than writing a half-decent new one.

People talk about Prince being a talented artist, but I dont agree.
He IS overrated. I havent heard any POWERFUL songs with him, Ive always hated purple rain and I think he is an average guitar player.
He has has such huge success , but never cause of QUALITY songs. Women who bought his records back in the days where only in it for his "sex apeal". And the men who bought his records didnt like female sex appeal.
If I had to choose between him and good Ole Michael Jackson, Id go with MJ. As fucked up he is in the head, he has produced many GREAT songs.

Seconded, not that I won't be first in line w/ TNC and Moosey when they roll back Philly way but the live thing now that JSS' acceptance has been stamped is like "Point taken. We can kick live ass another 10 years." That's where they make the majority of their coin so I appreciate that.
But we are ready to start hearing about laying down the new songs.
