OT..... My version of Macca's "Figure Of Eight"

Postby McNeil » Thu May 03, 2007 10:04 am

Hi guys!

Liquid Drummers great version of a Journey classic, inspired me to get to work on something "new"

Im always lookin to add "new" tracks to the set.... I must admit to previously ignoring most of Macca's "solo" work (I know...inexcusable!!)..with a couple of exceptions. .... Ive been combing thru his stuff the last week or so..and re-visited some tracks, that are really quite good... so... Over the next week or two, Im gonna add 2 or 3

This is the first, from his 1989 album "Flowers In The Dirt" ..a good, powerful pop rocker... Figure Of Eight .... love it!!

In the original Macca has a slapback echo on the vox throughout.. so Ive done the same here... !

Hope you like it!!

and as usual... thanks to Mr McCartney, for the music!!

track is here:

www.myspace.com/paulmccartneylookaliketribute

its the last track in the "music box" ..click to play!

enjoy

Hi Larry.... mmm..your right man.... most of it "doesnt hold up" !! ..the other couple Im gonna do are "Off The Ground" and "This One" ..I guess I like em as they betray my melodic rock roots... all 3 are firmly in that camp!!

Thanks for the comments dude...always welcomed !!

Larry one of his best albums was Flowers In The Dirt.
Not a bad track on it and the one McNeil does here
is one of my faves.

Good job McNeil, you sound much like him on this one Sir!

Flowers in the Dirt was great when it came out. I don't think it stands up that well years later, but I still like it. My Brave Face was probably the most "Beatley" solo thing he ever did. I liked that one and "Veronica" which he shoulda recorded instead of Costello.
Figure of 8 was a good song though. Great tour as well. McNeil, your voce actually does hit some McCartney'esque tones. Cool!
One thing, Press to Play had "Angry" on it. Good McCartney rocker there.

Check this out http://www.wingsband.com/

As a macca fan, THIS would be a FUN gig!
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

My Brave Face was one of the weaker tracks on
FITD for me.
Never heard Veronica, it was left off?
That Wings band looks pretty cool, would love to seem em if
they were closer, thanks for the link Brywool.

Veronica was on Costello's Spike album. Big hit in the states. Paul played bass and sang harmony on it.
