Journey at VH1 Rock Honors 2008?

Postby WalrusOct9 » Mon May 14, 2007 5:13 am

I was only thinking about this because there was news of the Genesis performance going around on their board, since the taping for the 2007 show was last night, and (I think) it is Genesis' first real live performance since announcing their reunion tour.

Obviously the "Rock Honors" isn't really as much a kind of "Hall of Fame" type thing as it is a promotional opportunity, but who am I to argue with anything that gets some real rock on TV? But with Ozzy's new album and Genesis' reunion tour, it's obvious the "honorees" are not exactly random choices.

So what are the odds that if Journey releases a new album in Spring/Summer 2008, they can get on this show? Most of the honorees seem to get to perform 3 songs, and if Genesis could slip "Los Endos" into their set last night, I'm sure Journey could play one new song as part of their 3 tunes. I'm not trying to get a bunch of "oh, that'd be awesome!" discussions, but really, is it a realistic possibility? I think it would be some great exposure for JSS and the band if they have some new material to present with it. (Perry's absence shouldn't really factor, since Queen played last year with Rodgers, and Kiss played with Thayer and Singer)

Great idea. Loved Rock Honors last year. Looking forward to the 07 version and having JRNY there next time would be cool.

Not sure how you're equating an obscure (to the masses, anyway) album track from over three decades ago to a new song. But the fact that Genesis included "Los Endos" last night was awesome.

And I agree 100% that Journey would be a perfect candidate for the VH1RH show next year, whether they were allowed to debut a new track or not.

Classic Albums

I would LOVE to see Journey on Classic Albums some time. I realize it is probably NOT that likely, but it would be nice.

Again, Journey would be perfect for the "Classic Albums" show, as well. And that COULD be done, as long as Perry was willing to participate.

But, despite Q+PR's presence on the show last year, a Journey nod on any future VH1RH special would probably be squelched simply BECAUSE Perry's not there anymore, and it would be JSS fronting the band. Just the way it is, IMHO...

"Los Endos" = new Journey tune because it'd be a piece of music that about 98% of VH1's audience wouldn't have a clue about.

I see your point, Walrus. But the big difference is that, to long-time Genesis fans, "Los Endos" is hardly an unknown piece of music, and is in fact a Genesis concert classic, much like "Freebird" is to Skynyrd fans, whereas a new Journey tune would be unfamiliar to virtually 100% percent of viewers.

That's all...

the problem with comparing Los Endos and Freebird (in a roundabout way), is that Freebird is the most overplayed song on the planet next to Stairway to Heaven. Los Endos has probably recieved .001% of the airplay the others have.

That said, I have a feeling Perry would be a part moreso with Jeff at the Helm, because they do have somewhat of a past connection and Jeff wasn't Perry's direct replacement. If Perry through legally with Journey? Maybe on paper... But there's still money to be made. Me loves me some money... (and cats)

People always say that, but I rarely hear either of those tunes even on classic rock stations.
