While Jeff's a great guy and a superb frontman and great singer- to me he was not a good choice as a vocalist for Journey. I heard ONE show where things were sounding really good and I even said so here, only on closer listening and someone here setting me straight did I realize it was a lot of Castronovo I was hearing. Everything else I heard was a guy singing out of his range and noticeably so. That's what I heard. Doesn't mean every show was like that, doesn't mean it's an explosive or blasphemous remark- but the 4 shows I have certainly were like that. I like Jeff a lot, but I have never understood him as the choice for Journey like so many of you did. God help you if you said something like that early on. There were so many that wanted it to succeed and so many that wanted Augeri crucified.
I think that Jeff can do better for himself being his own man and not walking in the shadow of Perry. It's a no win situation for him, Augeri, Chalfont, or friggin' Pee Friggin Wee Herman. It'd be cool if he and Schon still worked together, but not in Journey. Shit, it's a no win situation for PERRY. He'd come back to hear people say "wow, not as good as he was".
I suppose now some will come and verbally kick my ass. Big deal. It's just a band not anything to make enemies over. I've made quite a few friends here, attracted some psychos and have read some of the funniest stuff I've ever seen. Life goes on...
You gotta wonder who's next on the vocalist chopping block?
Unless Perry comes back (yeah, and unless Elvis, Cobain, Lennon, and Kennedy are really alive on an island somewhere) I cannot see Journey recovering from tapegate AND now this whole thing.
As I said before "I'm tired of waiting for them". I reiterate that sentiment here and now it will be even a longer wait.
With all the Perry exposure these days, it actually does seem like something is in the works. But I wouldn't believe it. If there's no Perry and Augeri's ruined (his reputation certainly is) then I can't see this going on any longer with any measurable success.
