Clapton and Schon Together?

Most probably have heard the story of Neal being asked by Eric Clapton to join his band. Have they ever actually played together?

neal speaks of a time before Dereck and the Dominos that they shared a stage.. where he knew (studied) Clapton licks better than Clapton.. unfortunately those were dark days for Clapton... Neal made the right choice looking back,, meeting Rollie and taking hold of some real roots .. still based on grooves and blues ...

.. Neal and Randy Jackson , Cain, Deen opened the Crossroads Jam 3 years ago in Dallas.. i think they played 2 LONG songs.. hendrix ya know.. ................but never was he on stage WITH Clapton at this show.. very unfortanate..

... the last interview i remember of Neal speaking of Eric C . .....Neal stated that Clapton just needed to shut up and PLAY that guitar.. i agree .. Clapton is BORING anymore,, that Cream reunion looked like 3 guys having NO fun..

I agree, going with Santana was a very wise choice. He said during the interviews on the Houston DVD that he didn't see Dereck and the Dominos lasting very long.

If I remember correctly Neal has performed at least ONCE at one of Clapton's Crossroads shows.

Granted Clapton is a great guitar player, but he sure knows how to write the most boring songs :)

Neal sat in w/ Clapton at either the Filmore or Berkeley in the 70s pre-santana. It was then that clapton asked him to join but neal opted for santana.

Clapton and Schon have no real similarities in their playing. I don't think you can say one is better than the other. Clapton has completely embraced the blues. He could care less about anything else at this point. Neal's playing WAS more of a jazz based style, more like Jeff Beck than Clapton. Neal has one style now.....shred. Forget the melodics. That's a thing of the past for him. If he'd just slow down and play, he'd be brilliant again.

I have two boots where Frack played with Clapton back in the 1970's. One is a jam session, one is with Derek and the Dominos......... does that answer the question? 8)
