OT: Can you guess what this is?

Wanted to share the note below from Mike Best - who I once worked for. He is now a Government Property administrator in Kuwait.
I thought he wrote a very educational note.

Hi Betty

Just thought you'd like to know, Pam and I have been to Dubai to see this. It is located in the largest mall in the world, in the city with the (soon to be) tallest building.

It is amazing and even the pictures do not provide the real feel of just how large it is. Very amazing.

I'm sure this affects the price of oil, but we in America don't understand the actual amount of oil available over here. There is so much oil and they are so rich, they don't value things, they just have them. That is hard to imagine, but it is the way they are.

Also, the cost of gas in America is not caused by these type things the Arabs have. Actually, they sell the oil very cheap, it is after leaving here that the cost is added, mostly at the US refineries. The US oil companies love for us to see these type "arab" excesses, so they won't be looked at for gouging us for the gas prices. Just compare the cost of a barrell of oil to the cost of a gallon of gas.

I'm not defending them, but they shouldn't get the blame for our own greed. Remember, all Kuwaitis receive $120,000 per year from birth to death. They realize the worth of their riches and all the people share in the wealth. They have no taxes, are given a free spot of land and house for free, no utilities, free schooling and free health care.

I will say this though, I'd rather be a middle class American in America than to stay here. Our freedom far outweighs whatever they want to call their government here. They like to think of themselves as Democratic, but there are too many instances of government abuse for it to really be democratic, the number one being, Kuwaitis are #1, all other people are sub to them.

Oh well, I can go on with that forever, you just have to be here to really understand, suffice it to say, I'll be glad to get back to the good ole USA early next year.

Better go for now, keep in touch.

Mike

Well, if they are extravagant and waste thier money like most Arabs think we do, they might want to think twice about putting up those tall buildings. We all know what they like to do with them.

WE pay £6 a gallon in the UK, what you pay in the states equates to about £2 a gallon, considerably less.
I think you will find the tax's on oil fund our Govt's not the kuwait's. :)

Also those pics where cool, a very good example of some architectural engineering ingenuity :)
