Ways to recover deleted photos from a digital camera?

i had pics of me and my ex and we just broke up on my camera.. they were very sedimental pics and in the options i clicked FORMAT by accident... can someone tell me how to recover them? I have a 1 Gig memory card.. please there has to be a way.! If the gov can do it i can! somebody please help me i really wanna cry... i know its possible... ive taken actually maybe 350 pictures since.. but they are REALLY sedimental... can i take it to the government and ask to use their software?

sorry if this makes me sound whiny..

If it was on a Secure Digital or other type of memory card and hasn't been overwritten by new photos, the only way to get them back is by using data recovery software. If it was the camera's internal memory, I'm not sure it can be saved.

There is free software to do the job. You can dowload one of them here.

There are several other free ones at www.download.com. Search for data recovery, then change the 'liscense' type to free and click Filter to show only the free ones.

I'm not usually a "grammar nazi" but the wrong word is representing sentiment. I ignored the first as a typo.
