Perhaps... I've hit on something here.

Always felt that Augeri had a more feminine quality to his stage persona. Nothing against that, Jagger's gotten away with it for 40 years, though that might not be an adequate comparison.

Thanks, folks.

Regarding Perry and Soto's dominance of the stage, I've always considered it "where would the camera go"? If you look at classic Journey footage, at least 50% of the footage is dedicated to Perry himself. I have a feeling that it would be the same with Jeff. Not so much for Neal and the boys anymore.

bc even HE can't hit those high notes anymore. :P

And I'd still rather hear him sing the songs than anyone else, even if they could hit those notes.

And with Jeff - I was actually excited about Jrny again. His stage presence and his versions of the songs were second only to Perry's, in my book. I'll take great performances over great sound alike any time.

I never said nor implied either. I merely made an observation that Arnel's voice is more Journeyesque than JSS's or SA's. SA's voice was also more "Journeyesque" than JSS's, yet JSS-led-Journey shows were much more energetic and enjoyable. And would I want Perry back in Journey? Depends. If he can't perform up to par, then no. But that goes for any musician in any band. Anything less is an embarrassment.

I just want Perry to sing. Period. Regardless of who he's with. I froth at the mouth for his solo stuff and his recent backing vocals for Guff and David Pack.

Okay, no slams for this because it's not a knock on SP or SA, but the first time I saw JSS I thought, "Man, there's some testosterone up there!" Didn't realize it was missing until JSS came along.

Agree +100....Believe it or not, I think Journey was more comfortable with Steve Augeri's stage presence than with Jeff's.

Jonathan in particular? I wouldn't have thought Neal would have a problem with JSS's stage presence, with Journey it was a bit more reserved than when I saw Soul Sirkus.

I attended concerts with both Augeri and JSS as lead vocalists and felt that Augeri had more stage presence. Augeri was much more gracious while JSS did a lot of clowning around. I don't think that their music took on a more energetic appearence with JSS, it simply had a harder edge and a bit on the wild side and I think that any new material would have been too removed from what ALL the Journey fans would hope for with the band. Maybe the guys thought this also.

But that might also be because Escape and Frontiers are played continuously throughout my life. TBF had great vocals, stellar musicianship, outstanding quality, and the highest form of lyrics. "If He Should Break Your Heart" is likely my favorite Journey ballad. :D

Edit: Neither, lol. I just have a wide spectrum of appreciation.

Yes,very articulate writing..Impressive..! But, I disagree with your assessment of ROR an TBF.. When you start out listening to Journey and those two albums are out while your old enough to buy them the day they are released, its a little different then when I went out and bought Escape when that was released,or Frontiers.. ROR and TBF had way too many ballads on them, especially TBF.. I liked if he should break your heart also, but my fav is Easy to Fall... The older stuff we grew up with really show cases what SP can do when he was younger.. Seriously,I want to hear someone else nail,(Something to hide,Sweet and Simple,Winds of March and Opened the door).. Only person I can think of..God rest his soul.. Brad Delp !
