Journey...with special guests

Postby hoagiepete » Mon Nov 12, 2007 2:47 am

How about this...

Do an new cd with special guest lead singers for each of the songs (ala Santana) crossing markets. Bring in a few country stars (males and females), young rock stars, old rock stars (males & females). Even have SP sing on a song. Even have Arnel sing on a couple.

Then hire Arnel to tour and have a few of the "guests" show up at a concert here and there.

This will introduce the band to new markets and future fans.

Journey is dead as we once knew them. Why not shake it up and make it interesting for the fans.

Let the shredding...or ignoring begin.,

The first special guest singer should be the one and only Kamala.

Let the shredding begin is correct.

It's. Never. Gonna. Happen.
It's really really really time that the whole "find ways to get SP back with Journey" thing come to an end.
It's pointless. Yes, it's a nice dream, but it ain't gonna happen.

They did have a chance to shake it up and make it interesting for the fans when JSS was in. That went out the window when they fired JSS.

Yeah, Journey as we knew them is dead now. They should put themselves out of their misery and retire.

They are retired. The greatest hits tour is a pension plan.

You're comparing an apples and oranges situation. It worked for Santana because that group got it's fame from being an instrumental band. The vocals were incidental. Nobody thinks of Journey for the instrumentals. Your suggestion won't move albums unless Perry is up front doing duets with the guest singers. It would be like Santana hiring Josh Ramos in his place then having guest vocals on the songs. Who would care?

Good lord. No country. Country is just awful music.

You gotta appreciate Journey's fan base - lots of people in middle america (who also like Journey), love country music. Have you heard the album sales statistic on acts like Garth Brooks, and more recently Carrie Underwood? Staggering... I don't think they do that well internationally (I haven't looked it up). But for Journey to do so well with the same fan base...not bad for a band from San Francisco...If they could some how tap into that base again (highly doubtful) they could make a lot of money. I probably wouldn't listen to any of it, especially if there was even a hint of twang in it..

How any of this fits in with Arnel...I'm lost..

I've tried and tried to give country a chance. Just last week a friend at work, who's just very recently gotten into country because of a woman, talked me into downloading and listening to Rascal Flatts. Musically talented they most definitely are, but I just can't stand the twang of country. To me it is someone trying to make themselves sound stupid or simple. It's like the lyrics are saying "I'm just a stupid old simple country fuck that's got no sense, someone please save me." I can tolerate the upbeat pop sounding songs better, but you put me in a room with those tear jerker songs and you better hide the razor blades.

I've updated my original note (in this quote and on the original), but yeah, we're pretty much on the same page. I still like to hold out on the idea that a 'good song is a good song' so I keep an open mind. The whole 'country' sound is not for me. I The closest I get to Country is probably the Doobie Brothers and the occasional Eagles song...haha...An entire album of that stuff about belts, trucks, beear and the farm...You can count me out..

"Special Guests". Interesting concept. However with the way Journey has handled themselves over the past few years I sincerely doubt anyone with any credence would bother to do this. Ok well maybe David Cassidy or Donny and Marie.
When in doubt, DUCK!

they should have picked a lead singer in the way INXS did...Grab a handful of the best karaoke and/or tribute band singers and put them on a tv show. in the case of journey you'd have to take the decision out of the hands of frig and fro though.

I think Journey should stop all this shit and just get William Hung from American Idol a few years ago. He has a great stage presence, This guy is the real fucking deal. They might actually get on the Morning news shows like "Today" since William Hung actually has been in the national news this century.

Here is a picture of WH if you forgot about him.

With as many AI singers auditioned, I'm surprised no one in Perry's range appeared. Really goes to show how rare a voice like that its.

"Nobody thinks of Journey for the instrumentals."

huh? R u serious? The musicianship of Journey's long extended dynamic jams are a staple of their shows! There's a huge fan base which love Neal's guitar playing as much as hearing the classic vox. Imho you CAN'T be a true Journey fan and NOT love the instrumental jams. Remember the band's roots people. ;)

I think Journey should open with Cheech and Chong. Then everybody will be stoned, and they won't give a flying fuck who is singing for Journey.
