OT: John Couger okay Mellancamp show DM review

First off, I got tix comp from one of my customers--a corp suite at the wells fargo
arena in Des Moines---if any of you have done a corp suite--these are even better
than floor seats... because you can actually having a great time, with out the beer spilling all over you, people throwing up--- Los Lobos opened up... put on a great show, themselfs
played la bamba---which 15 years ago wehen i saw them, they hated that song. BTW,
how come every latin band sounds like Santana!!

Couger came on next about 40 minutes later to little pink houses---awesome had the crowd on its feet for the first 30 minutes... then came the most hillarious part of the evening...
during small town Melloncamp brought on John Edwards to the stage... to a rousing of boos... heck even in the suites they were booing.. LMAO at the whole thing!! ck out the article over at www.dmregister.com or at www.drudgereport.com. Anyway, it took about 20 minutes for the crowd to really get back into the show again...highlights were authority song, Jack and Diane and check it out and suprisingly good this is your country... left off Cherry Bomb, I need a lover and hurt so good. Played a bunch of either new songs or obscure stuff that the die hards would love. 90 minute show...

I like Mellencamp and Los Lobos, sounds like a fun show.

If you go to a Mellencamp show and not expect him to get a little political, you have not been paying attention to John Mellencamp for the past twenty years! lol! I saw him the next night in Sioux City and he was a little under the weather(the last time I saw him about eight years ago he was sick too!) but still in wonderful spirits. I just love his joking commentary, even though he ran through about four songs without saying a word.

I thought the setlist was great. I did miss the old stuff though. I would have loved to have heard "This Time", "Ain't Even Done With The Night" or "Play Guitar", but was still happy with the show. I like how during Small Town he took video footage of the town he was playing in and played it on the backdrop. That was a nice touch for the fans.

Mellencamp has always been a good ticket to have. He could always bring the DTE down.

I would've booed and then left. I could stomach an artist bringing almost any other politician on stage to support them but Edwards is possibly the biggest phony politician on the planet.

I don't want politics with my music, unless it's an event for a political cause.

That said, Mellencamp is one of the best concerts I've ever seen and it was YEARS ago - I think my oldest was eleven, so that would have been sixteen years!

I saw John Cougar in Houston around 1983 after he came out with American Fool. He talked politics about half the show. We were getting so annoyed with him. He really rocked the other half of the show though. Good stuff, that guy.

I feel the same, leave the politics out of it. And your right he did put on a great show. I have seen him twice and his Cherry Bomb tour concert is still up there in my top 5 favorite concerts. He's going to be touring Canada with Tom Cochrane & Red Rider in the new year.........will probably go, TC & RR have some great tunes.

I didn't think he got THAT political. He just brings to light the subjects of our time. Jena Six and the song he wrote about it, Scarecrow, Smalltown ,etc. those songs themselves have political undertones, so he just makes some commentary around them. You're there to hear the songs that say the same thing as what he talks about during the show! He doesn't mention party lines or individuals like some artists I've seen (CSNY are REALLY bad at that, same with Roger Walters). I think John is about the working man and while I can't stand artists getting political, his commentary didn't bother me in the least. He is at least one artist who stands up for the common man while keeping himself humble and "smalltown" himself.

PS-- I liked the show.. my point was i was LMAO at the way the people in the audience showed their love to
Edwards...BTW. in Johns case, he was leading the polls in the summer--until his 400.00 haircut..... now he is third.
Mellancamps show would have been a 10out of 10 if he would have stuck to more of the hits...

I agree with much of what you say about Mellencamp but I just can't stand John Edwards. He is phony to the core.
