But Arnel sings pretty decently! Some straining, but I don't sing so I'm no one to talk!
I'm typically the most critical SOB u could ever meet about a singer straining to hit high notes. I've watched all the YouTube videos of Arnel that u guys have seen & I'm not hearing a lot of straining. His voice has a certain rough quality at times, is that what ur referring to? (He didnt have that years ago, but being a singer in a lot of smokey rooms changes the voice.) That's not straining, that's his voice. I don't doubt there's some element of hyperadduction of the cords (glottal attack) at times after many hours of performing when he hits some of those high notes hard, but I know he takes really good care of his voice. To do what he's been doing for so long, any singer would have to.

I think it's hard for the average person to differentiate Arnel's voice from the backing singers & musical instruments. Most people hear the band as a whole. I was talking to a friend about this recently & realized how differently I hear things.

I think the guy is good, very good, but Jesus Christ, do you have to ram him down our throats? I feel like I am at a Christian Coalition Republican convention. My God, let the fucker sing, and people can make up their minds.

I'm not ramming him down anyone's throat (I'll stay good here & not type what that brought to mind). I just hate seeing things said that aren't true when I know different.

I also notice some straining to hit the high notes but thats what I like about this guy.
He doesnt back out of those crazy high notes or resort to falsetto or the most annoying
nasal technique (not really sure how to describe it but its like blowing the air out through your nose
creating a high pitched sound, some Journey tribute singers often uses this)

I know the same things as Susie for the most part. It's called interest, poking around for information and research. Beats the hell out of negativity, assumption and fallacy (not you DP...others). :P

Right Dan. It's all out there for anyone who wants to find it. I'm not going to sit here & call someone a lounge act or cruise ship singer if I dont know what they actually did in their past.

I dunno about the rest of u but when I hear a singer/band I like, I make it a point to find out everything I can about them. Sometimes there are musical gems hiding in their past no one remembers :-) When I got into Jeff, I did the same thing & collected pretty much his entire back catalog. Now I've done it w/Arnel. I knew there had to be a story behind his voice, just like I knew there had to be one behind Jeff's. I was actually surprised at the similarities between these guys. One was big in Europe, the other in Asia, but neither had fame in the US. There's a LOT of great music & great performers out there in this big world that never make it to these shores.

One good thing about Journey, they keep giving us new singers w/back catalogs for me to check out :-)

LMAO!!! That band does suck ass! Deano's gonna love this one.

 dude,, YOU know how hard it is to get a bunch of dudes to sound good live.... your just one of those talented dudes that the rest of us HATE!! its tought for us joes to get in sync.....

It's basically the guitarist that sucks. The keyboard player, bassist, and drummer are okay. But when the guitarist hits those off-key sour-ass notes in many of the songs from The Zoo, it makes it sound amateur.

Can we have 2 drummers? I was kinda hoping to get Liquid Drummer b/c of his voice. He could take a few numbers :-) No offense to u but he's a great singer. He could probably do lead vox if he was willing. I want Eric on keys but he's probably too busy as he's a celeb & not fit for us amateurs. Do we have any other kb players?

Yeah & his backing vox on many songs drive me nuts.

Hey Voyager, NIG, Dave, anyone else, I'm really not fit to judge a guitarist's ability. What do u think of that guitarist on the Zoo's original music? It's not doing much for me on the original stuff either so I was wondering what someone w/more "knowledge" would think.

I can play bass or keyboards too. But there is a really good keyboard around here named Ted who really knows his stuff. I'm not sure what his username is though.

I don't know. What is so great about it. Steve A. did it, Jeff did, Jeremy did it. What's the big fucking deal. Arnel will always be second best, because the job was already Jer's.....So in my opinion, he is nothing more than second best. Plus I think he sucks. He does not continue the Journey sound.
