Has anyone else noticed or discussed this before? ( I need to listen to them both again to ensure I've got this straight).

Hey, there -- you beat me to correcting myself, because I just listened to both on the way to work, and I got it backwards -- the Greatest Hits version lacks some vocals, and seems a bit shorter overall. Yes, the "There's a fiiiiirrrreee...." part, and I need to listen again, but I believe the portion where he goes, "Yeah! .... Fiiiiiiire, Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire" lacks a preceding extra 4 measures (if I'm counting right). I'll listen to them both again shortly and count. I first noticed this a couple of years ago when I was learning to sing the song and noted the difference. Thanks for the info! Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about the extra measures being cut.

Absolutely the best. Actually, I've put together my own ROR album with almost all songs live. It rocks.....Deb wrote:larryfromnextdoor wrote:the Box Set live version is the best ..
Agreed! The LIVE versions of GCHI and IBAWY are now bonus on the new ROR release. Love Perry's vocals on those and the ROR cd in general!
Perry's pipes and Neal's guitar.................ahhhhhh!![]()

Actually, IBAWY was not shortened for radio play - Perry insisted on leaving Neal's guitar on the end because he felt that it was so good that the stations would let it play out.
At 4:49 it is long compared to other Journey tunes at the time.
