All kinds of reasons bands re-record in my opinion. $$$$$$$, ran dry in the writing department, lost popularity and try to re-invent again or live in the past. Who can name someone that really came back big that wasn't huge already. I think original singers/writers are the key in bands. They control their world !

Ya know, many artists will say that there are songs that they always liked, but had an itch to do them in their own way. And I can respect that. It makes sense. However, most won't admit publicly that they do it just to fulfill their contract with their label. It's an easy way out to satisfy some stipulation that they put out another record. And, within yesterday's market of cover tunes paying off rather big time, then it's conceivable that that it's a money maker too.

If a cover album makes a few bucks, then great. If it doesn't, then at least the band is one step closer to ridding themselves of being under contract by the big antiquated record label fools that still want to rely on their old business model.

Honestly, it's a win-win for everyone, especially the general public that continues to laugh at the once-big labels.
