Journey S/T -- first listen

Ok, so I mentioned in another thread I decided to go and buy all the older Journey albums I've never owned or listened to, and I ordered all of them up to "Frontiers". Just got the rest of them in yesterday, and I'm listening to them from the beginning. Today I finished the first S/T CD.

I got a kick right from the start, when I opened the CD booklet to find the only text written on page 2, "We suggest that you play this at the highest possible volume in order to fully appreciate the sound of Journey."

I absolutely loved the first track, "Of A Lifetime". Unfortunately, the rest of the CD wasn't really my thing, but I will continue to listen to it and see if it grows on me. I'll start on "Look Into The Future" in a few days...

I first bought the first 3 Journey albums back when I was in my early teens back in the mid 1980's, and I wasn't a big fan at first either. But the more I studied music the more I started to love the musicianship of those first 3 albums. And for the last 20 years now I love those albums and listen to them quite a bit.

Don't try to compare it to the Perry/Augeri Journey, because their nothing like those. Pay close attention to Neal and Aynsley's playing on those first 3, it's mind blowing.

Hey, thanks, and point noted. Couldn't expect as much in 1975... What I was honestly expecting to here was a bit of 70's-era progressive rock, and much of it seemed to fit that mold on first listen. The musicianship was excellent, though! I'm just not such a fan of that easy meandering progressive style, just as I wasn't much of a fan of the earlier Yes albums, either. I do love prog, but probably more 80's on (my first into to any kind of progressive rock was Rush, with "2112"). I do think it will grow on me, though, and I'll keep listening.

Well, I was gonna say I usually classify that era of music as "Weed Rock"... Honestly, giving it a 2nd listen now, and it's growing on me. I think by the 4th way thru I'll really get it. Track 1 is still my favorite, though.

The first Journey album is an integral part of the perfect cure for stress or a case of the blues

Get a six pack of Miller Genuine Draft (or whatever you drink) find a comfortable chair and a footstool. Turn the album on, crack open a few of the beers, close your eyes, think about the first woman you were ever with (unless of course shes the damn problem !) and forget about your problems for fourty-five minutes or so.

It you are in an extreme case continue your treatment immediately with another six MGD's and Next and Look Into the Future.

Its worked for me countless times.

At the end of the session play Generations. If tracks 4-10 sound good, you've either gotten way too happy and are just plain silly, or you are really hopelessy messed up and need to consider a lobotomy.

LOL! That reminds me of that silly country song, something about how"she looked like (insert hot starlet name here) after 10 beers". Is that what it takes to enjoy it?

I'm honestly digging it now, and am trying to take my time... let it sink in before proceeding.
