Madonna In The Rock Hall? Seriously?

Postby nikki » Sat Dec 15, 2007 1:28 am

Good article on MSNBC. I'm inclined to agree that just because an artist might be "influenced" by rock music, it shouldn't qualify you as a candidate for the Hall. Interesting read.

music is music is music.... :)
Personally I believe the if the likes of Beethoven and Mozart were alive today would be leaders in the field, in fact they should posthumously get an accolade such as this, because I feel that they do Rock!....and in fairness some of the worlds populace may feel that Madonna deserves this too....it all boils down to personal taste. :)

Local radio station here mentioned this today and first band he mentioned not in the hall was JOurney and he was making fun of a couple of the others that had been inducted this year

I agree with the author, 100%. Although I don't consider myself a fan of Madonna, I do think she is immensely talented and has had tremendous staying power in the music industry. That said, the music Madonna plays has ZERO to do with "Rock and Roll". I think that is one of the MANY problems with the whole Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concept. There seems to be no defineable standards (other than the 25 year thing) for measuring what puts an artist in the HOF. Also, as the author points out...Miles Davis and Grandmaster Flash do NOT belong in the ROCK AND ROLL HOF! Who is next on their list...Kenny G, Barry Manilow, Harry Connick? It's just become an absurd circus!

Unlike sports, you don't even have statistics to debate who belongs in or out! The fact that they have chosen to induct people who didn't even perform in the genre makes it the most hollow honor I can think of, for an artist! It's really too bad, because I think if they had put ANY thought into it, the HOF fame could have been a VERY prestigious thing.

Maybe they should call it the "Music and Related Pursuits Hall Of Fame"

This organization's practice has been to induct recording artists from almost all genre's. It didn't start out that way, but it certainly has moved in that direction.

The problem is, they're calling their organization "the rock and roll hall of fame". They should be honest and rename it to "the music hall of fame". Then go back and induct the likes of Mozart, beethoven, etc.

Madonna has no vocal capabilities at all. She is just famous for her shocking antics. Thats why shes a celebrity. How is Journey not in the HOF? and they let a crappy pop-star in before them? Well i guess they need a solid group of members for a certain amount of years to put journey in and Journeys gone through band members like nobodys business

One more reason that Journey shouldn't care that they will never make it into this so called Honor.

EXACTLY MY OPINION!!!!!!

They either need to change the name or quit putting people that are not Rock and Roll in there. Maybe a name like Musician's Hall of Fame, but leave out the Rock and Roll.

Madonna does NOT belong in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". Neither does Michael Jackson, or any of the other R & B, Motown musicians. And I have no idea who this Grandmaster so and so is. How can you be a hall of famer if no one knows who you are?

I just had this very conversation with co-workers in my office yesterday.
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

You are a fucking tard. She has a Hell of a voice. She is absolutely deserving to be in the HOF. It's not only for rock acts morons. It's a generic term. there are many in the HOF that aren't "rock n roll." Ever heard of Prince? Hell, the Beatles weren't really rock, they were pop. You going to omit them? Eradicate them? Probably not.

Journey will eventually get in. The classic lineup is just too great to ignore. I believe Steve Perry holds the cards on this. The HOF probably wants a one off performance.

I saw them, I'll guess around '82, with NRBQ, the Outlaws & Paul Young (strange 4-some, I know). They appeared to be a novelty act with their breakdancing members and talking-style with background music. I guess I watched only out of curiousity (and something to do while gulping down shitty tap beer). Nowdays with the Sugarhill gang and Run DMC, they're considered founding fathers of the worst music on the planet.
