Dude, stop trying to sneak a fastball by me. Ain't gonna happen. The Marlins play in a football stadium and averaged 16,920 per game last year, worst in the NL. Even in their World Series years of 2003, they were next to last at 16,089 per game.

Speaking of fastballs, I have to decide whether or not to play another year of real baseball at age 39. I will be 40 during the playoffs.

Dude, I want to sign on as a FA. We are trying to move out of here. I have mad power and keep the K's to a minimum. I can no longer catch due to knees(unless you provide me with 8 ES Vicodins per every 4 innings), but play a mad 1st base, and no, I don't wear the batting helmut like John Olerud did. NO Jokes on Jonny O, he was a collegiate friend of mine. Dude was NCAA player of the year. He pitched; was 16-0 with a 2.95 era(aluminun bats) and hit 400.

Hey, the clock is ticking on me. However, I beat a former major league pitcher on the hill in this league and still know what it's like to hit a 400 foot home run. 8)

We don't cut anyone. If you came on and were better than me, I'd just play less and drink more. :o

Rockindeano wrote:You're basically right. I say basically because NASCAR and College sports are big in the South. However, Pro sports blow. Case in point.

Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans and Carolina(Raleigh).

Miami- Shit attendance for Panthers, Heat and Marlins, and this year the Dolphins. I remember watching the Heat in the Finals and empty seats everywhere.

Atlanta
- Thrashers do ok, but Hawks and Falcons are pure shit. No, they are worse than shit, they are a cancer. The Braves have a good organization but even they had empty seats during playoff games. I remember the slogan there used to be, "Go Braves, and take the Falcons with you."

New Orleans- Saints. Decent. Remember the Jazz(now Utah)? They had Pete Maravich and still moved away. Shithole of a town. Republicans think Katrina was sent from above to clean up that shithole. Result? Needs more work.

Now to be fair, on the flip side, cities like Durham, NC, Tobacco Road, NC, Athens, GA, Gainsville FL, Baton Rouge LA, Birmingham AL, Tuscaloosa, Lexington KY...all killer college towns.

I agree with you, on the college aspect. I said that in my original post. In fact, I would say the south is phenomenal when it comes to college football and basketball (although, I think NC is responsible for 90% of the basketball fandom). It's always been a very strong college sports area. That said, the south is a complete embarrassment to pro sports. It always has been and always will be.

I will say that I think one big reason for it, is that the south tends to have more transplants, than most of the country, because of the good weather. I think because most of the teams are newer teams, and the teams that have been there for a length of time are surrounded by a lot of fans who simply don't have the connection to those teams, due to not growing up, hanging on their every move!

Deano, you are very right here, but like I said the Marlin fans are tired of getting shit on. After every season the fan favorite players are shipped out. Just this month they trade off Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera, the 2 main players fans came to see. How do you support rebuilding EVERY YEAR???? The lackluster support actually started after they won the 1997 WS. They do a fire sell and get rid of every big name they have-after winning the championship!!! In 98 the fans didnt recognize anyone from the previous year. Its almost like charging fans full MLB prices to see a AAA team. I went to a Marlins game in 2001 in Miami against the Braves and the Atlanta fans outnumbered Marlin fans 3 to 1. Listening to sports radio in the Florida market right now its obvious fans are upset with the choices the Dolphins are making lately and its starting to bleed over to attendance. I remember fans going ballistic when they passed on Brady Quinn with the first pick in last Aprils draft, and they needed to start over at QB! I know many are pissed off with Huizenga and are thrilled hes decided to unload the team. I can promise you one thing-from a very young age(the Bob Griese years) to the Jay Fiedler years the Dolphins sold out home games regulary, there was never a reason to doubt South Floridas Dolphin loyalty. I was there and saw it. I hope they get their shit back together. Miami is too legendary to keep at this pace.
