X3 had some great moments (Who the hell knew Kelsey freaking Grammar would make a good Hank McCoy! I almost fell out when he said "Oh my stars and garters!") and I liked some of the homages to the actual source material, but MAN did they waste the Phoenix story! Again, she shoulda been your main villian, not a foot nte to yet another Magneto movie...

I totally agree about Supes, especially the color scheme...what was that about? And the whole SUPERMAN LIFTS A CONTINENT crap was right up there with turning back time in the first film on the LAME-O- METER....

Man, wasn't Kelsey awesome as Beast? It ended up being perfect casting, IMO. Who'da thunk? Now I can totally understanding a hardcore X-Men fan not liking the film, if you are more familiar with the later characters. I was a fan of the old-school Jack Kirby-era X-Men (probably from reprints as I'm not that old) -- the great stories with Magneto, Submariner, and Silver Surfer. I never got into the later characters, so I didn't know enough about Dark Phoenix to hate the new movie...

Did you ever see the one that came out in 1990? Went direct to video, though I remember the teaser poster being in theaters before then. I know a lot of people hated it, but it's one of my guilty pleasures. Yep, the next one should do much better. I believe it's on Marvel's roster of films in development. Marvel's decision to start their own film division and do their own films was probably the best decision they could have made, because they know best how to do their own characters. "Iron Man" and "Incredible Hulk" (both out next year), are their first two films... I guess we'll see!

My fave was Silver Surfer. I used to have Spiderman #2 and DC's Action #47. That's the rarest I got ahold of.

Do you have Amazing Fantasy 15 or FF#1 ?

I never knew much about the Surfer, but I do know how much I hated the last FF movie! I can't believe anyone liked it... it was HORRIBLE, and Doom was useless in it. The Surfer was cool, though!

No, I don't have any old comics, really. The last time I collected was back when I was 19-20, and it was Judge Dredd. I was a HUGE Dredd fan, and a HUGE Stallone fan, so I actually liked much of the movie. Stallone did an outstanding Dredd -- people just didn't know much about the character to appreciate his interpretation. Dude did his homework, and even had the facial expressions down. The movie as a whole, however, was a wasted opportunity. They sunk enough cash into it -- they should have just been faithful and told the studio to go screw themselves. Not the way it usually works, though.

Hey Rip,
here's an obscure childhood super hero reference - were you ever the proud owner of the mego figures? Those things came out in like 1973 when I was 5. Mego produced them for a few years and then went out of business.
How about the Shazam tv show too - driving around in the Winnebago with Mentor.

Absoutely! Man, haven't toys come a looooong way since then? Those things sucked, but I had all I could find! You are talking about the ones with the cheap pre-spandex costumes, and the logos were just stickers, right? And Batman had those cheap plastic gloves? Heck, yeah! I think the only one I didn't have was Tarzan, because it was so horrible... He had a flesh-colored outfit from head to toe...

Man, I had all the original Star Trek dolls with the Enterprise set, I had the Lone Ranger and Tonto, and tons of G.I. Joes.

Yes, I also watched "Shazam", "ISIS", etc. I was around when Bill Bixby's Hulk first came on the air.. :P Just a little dude growing up in Memphis, TN.

No, but I have some pretty old Spider-Man comics. I think I have #18, and some in the 30's, 40's and 50's. I haven't looked through them in about 10 years. I plan on passing them down, unless I need the dough to buy something important, like a gasoline powered turtleneck sweater or a fur sink (who knows where that's from?).

Nicholson's Joker will always be the best.

This is a funny thread - yep I'm approaching 40 quickly. Like you Rip I had the Star Trek figures, the enterprise, many of the super heroes. For the day those figures were awesome. There was even a mego batcave you could only get through the sears catalog. I begged my mom for that - didn't get it. As you can see, I still haven't gotten over it yet!!

I'm not sure if I've even ever seen one of those... wow! I did also have the Six Million Dollar Man and Maskatron figures as well, and those were two of my favorites. If I'm not mistaken, Maskatron could masquerade as Steve Austin or Oscar Goldman as well.

I love Jack's Joker...but let's be serious...it's JACK! Nicholson is a great actor (I think AS GOOD AS IT GETS is one of the finest performances on film) but I'm not sure it's the greatest interpretation of that character ever. After all, who else is there to compare it too, Caesar Romero????
I think Mark Hamill's Joker in the Batman animated series was pretty fucking amazing...would've loved to have seen Mark get a crack at that character in real life. People forget that he's a well- trained, very talented actor. (Won a Tony for AMADEUS) I saw him on Broadway in the original production of Larry Shue's THE NERD and he was abso-fuckin-lutely fabulous!

I think Heath's Joker is gonna kick all kinds of ass!

Hey RIP- did you ever get into the PLANET OF THE APES action figures? I think they were MEGO as well...LOVED me some POTA as a kid!

Hey! I agree on Jack. He only really plays Jack Nicholson, so his Joker was pretty much Jack in a Joker Suit. That's not completely fair... I think he did a tremendous job with the role. I'm just ready for something darker. :P

Yes, I did have all the POTA figures, thanks for reminding me! I was also a huge POTA fan as a kid, have seen each of the movies countless times, and even recently purchased the original TV series on DVD (13 episodes, I think). I also had scads of POTA coloring books, etc. The Tim Burton "reimagining" was pretty much a stinker, but you can still get great screen-used props from that film on eBay. The guy that sells them seems to have an endless supply. They also had tons of "Punisher" props there.

I have always been a DC fan. Still have most of my comics from the 70 up to present day. Still one a few hear and there. Don't spend the money on them that I use to.
New BAtman looks good. Jack's joker will be hard to beat, but he may get beat, who knows-ERIC

I can't find any reason to buy them anymore, because they are just a racket... Way too many cross-title runs designed to get you to buy tons of comics you would normally not touch just to get a complete story. Hard to get into a character anymore without spending too much money, and not enough single issue stories. I was done reading comics several years ago, but still enjoy seeing my classic heroes on the big screen (and hopefully done respectfully).
