Does Arnel Sound Like Steve Perry?

Yes. Arnel is a hired Steve Perry vocal clone.

He comes close but still sounds original which is why I like him.

No. But I like his voice and think he'll sound great with Journey.

I don't think he looks like Perry because Perry had confidence and stage presence.

I don't think he will be as successful as Perry because Journey hit their prime 25 years ago.

I do think he will satisfy the casual Journey fan who just wants to hear the songs live no matter who is singing.

Nig, you are so right!!!!!! The concert going public will have no idea...

Of course he sounds like Steve Perry! Why would Journey want to hire a singer because they can sound like Ann Wilson?

I disagree...sort of. There are moments on a few songs where you sound almost exactly like Perry. It's not intentional, but your voices during certain songs sound amazingly similar. Off of the top of my head...there are a few lines in Still They Ride that are amazingly close. As for Arnel, who I think has more range and a bit better voice, I never really get that feeling. I am "wowed" at times with his abilities, but never really get that "Man, this sounds like Perry" feeling I do at times with your voice. Again, I want to stress that I've never called you an "impersonator" or any of that garbage, but if that was the route they wanted to take I think you would have been the safer choice.

No one sounds like Steve Perry, lets get that straight.

Steve Augeri never sounded one little bit like Perry, but people said he did.
I am also yet to see or hear ANY tribute singer or so called Perry soundalike's who sounds like Steve Perry either.

Hugo is the closest, but his vocal is weak. Pineda sounds nothing like Perry, and Jeremey sounds NOTHING like Perry either.

uh...JH sounds dead on perry in controlled studio tracks. I've played some of his studio recorded vocals for peeps and the first thing is "wow, Steve Perry tunes". Everytime.

Most people don't listen beyond the surface technique. Saying someone sounds like someone else is too broad a blanket statement. That's why so many people say Augeri sounded like Perry. Hell, I remember people saying JSS sounded like Perry on the dirty dozen. Most people seem to use that blanket statement as soon as they hear a stylistic perryism used, but that's a far cry from sounding like the man. There's a difference between reminding you of something and sounding like something.

To the average ear, Jeremy can be mistaken for Perry on Perry's songs. The imitation is that close. On original material, I think he sounds like someone trying to imitate Perry. No offense, Jere. Just my honest opinion.
