The brewery who own the Ferry Inn, not many miles from my house have sold it to a property developer for £3million ...the Ferry inn is one of the oldest places in Brough. The famous highway man Dick Turpin used to frequent The Ferry a lot when on his forays to go horse stealing and doing a bit of Highway robbery in Lincolnshire, he used tocatch the ferry there, hence the name of the Inn. He was finally Hanged in 1738 for his crimes...
Get this! a planning application has gone in to turn this historic building into flats!!!
not only that the old magisrates court went the same way, it was turned into flats a few years ago right next door to the Inn, half of them have never even sold and been lived in!!
Talk about wiping history away!! I am a avid historian and this makes me soooooooo angry!! its amazing how money can blind people to the fact that this is part of the history of the town of Brough, formerly known as Petuaria( it's Roman Name)
All Bikers and Rock fans, and the townsfolk of Brough are now signing a petition to keep the Inn because of its age and history, and also because this is a good rock night venue, with a great atmosphere!
I just wanted to let you know, you may not give a toss, but its part of East Yorkshire and should be kept as it was an ale house.

Here are pics of possibly the last rock night at the Ferry
