I don't think a leak can doom an album. I think only the public can do that. Look at the Dave Matthews Band. They didn't get much airplay, but their fans supported them and their album sales multiplied by word-of-mouth. While it is true that record companies can "make" a superstar (i.e. Amercan Idol), it is also true that they cannot doom one. Nor can leaks doom an album. If anything, they will prompt more people to buy an album if they think it is good enough to deserve a leak.
The real question is - does the new album deserve a leak? Is it really that good? Is it going to sell to mainstream America? More importantly - is it at least going to hit Gold status? If not, then it will be just another 80's band "new release" like the last Styx, REO, Boston and Loverboy albums that went nowhere fast. If it doesn't hit the top 100 in album sales, it doesn't amount to a good album on the Billboard charts.
Only time will tell. (Wasn't that an ASIA song? - LOL!)
