EM Interview, mentions Andrew, MR.com & Melodic Rockfest

Postby Deb » Fri Feb 01, 2008 12:40 pm

January Eric Martin interview. The more I read about Mr. Big, the similarities to what happened with both bands (Journey/Mr. Big) managed by HH, sounds all too familiar. :o

Man, that hurt to read. Mr Big (with Gilbert, not Kotzen) was a great fucking band. It's saddening to not see it even have a chance in his eyes.

Love Eric :)

I was positioning to try and get Mr. Big to headline a possible MRF2, but quickly chose to get a new plan. Very sad...

Please tell me EM would still be a part of a possible MRF2? Image

That interview answered why TMG never made it over to America also, too bad. :( Sad that Mr. Big will probably never work together again too. Wow did that band chemistry sound familiar.

If there is a MRF2, then Eric will be there - in some capacity. Absolutely.

I wish Eric would just permanently team up with Jack and Tak and make TMG a full-time deal.

Seriously, people. If you don't have the TMG record, BUY IT!!!

Four all-time classic hard rock songs on that one...stand up on their own against ANYTHING from the past 30 years...

"Trapped" (the best Blades-penned song of all time)
"Red White & Bullet Blues"
"Oh Japan Our Time is Now"
"Everything Passes Away"

I shit you not.

Jack Blades fucking rocks.

Eric's scream at the beginning of "Trapped" vaults him into top-10 hard rock vocalist territory on its own. Amazing.

It sounds like in that interview the guys pushed to bring it over, but Tak didn't want to leave Japan. :(

Most of my favorite songs are from the Gilbert era, but absolutely love this one with Kotzen. Just an all-around great upbeat song. :D

He woulda been brilliant in Rainbow - the JLT era songs woulda suited him so well - but he has the voice to do the harder material also. What could have been....sigh

Have a GREAT time! I know ya will. I'm hoping there will be future Cali dates down the road. Here's EM performing one of my favorites off the TMG cd (Wish You Were Here). Sorry, sound kinda sucks, but it's a great rocker. :D

Deb, is that your eye on your avatar?

You mentioned that you see some similarities between the histories of Journey/Mr. Big. Other than there seems (from EM's interview) some bandmembers' dissension and both managed by HH, surely, it's just a coincidence?

Can someone give me a quick summary to Mr. Big's personnel? I take it that these Paul & Richie guys did not get along. Were they ever in the band together. Seems Richie replaced Paul as the lead guitariest, right?

LOL, no not my eye. I'm alot more lash challenged.

Mr. Big

Eric Martin - lead vocals
Billy Sheehan - bass
Paul Gilbert - guitar
Pat Torpey - drums
Richie Kotzen replaced Paul Gilbert in the late 90s.

Probably my favorite ballad (Gilbert era). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPw0xhaXNYE

They had a lot of great tunes. :D
