Where I'm from 'crank' is an illegal drug. But I feel you guys use it as a phallic reference.

WCN gets passed up more often than not.

You're right about that, and SHML rarely gets played, and WYLAW never gets played.

Oh by the way, Open Arms was skipped a bunch in 2003.

The best or most talented guy doesn't always get the gig. That was absolutely the case here. Jeremey is also a fantastic songwriter, and a loving husband and gentleman to boot. Not that Arnel isn't a good guy...don't know him...but talent had nothing to do with Arnel getting the gig.

Ohhhh PPPPlllease. Get your head outta JH arse you yanky moron. Arnel is a very talented singer. They chose Arnel because he had the voice good enough and strong enough to survive the Journey catalogue new and old.

Agreed. Arnel got the gig solely on talent. Face it, they wouldn't hire a Filipino singer with diction issues if he didn't have an incredibly talent voice. The diction issues will eventually fade away, if they already haven't, and his talets will be showcased. The fans and media will be the jury. I see this incarnation enjoying a lot of success. They have a monster vocalist. Augeri and Soto were quite good as is Jeremey, but Arnel is a few notches above those guys.

That would be the lovely Brooke Burke.

And to everyone, thanks for helping me with the answer. I kinda figured it was more generic.

I forget which tour it was, I think it was the one with John Waite and Peter Frampton, but they did play some songs a bit off the beaten path. They played 4 songs off Arrival-Higher Place, All the Way, Kiss Me Softly and To Be Alive Again

From what I remember the Arrival songs changed from show to show. We also got to hear Edge of the Blade, Only the Young and Mother,Father which made for a nice change.

Unfortunately Journey has the same problems alot of bands on this site have: They have been relegated by the majority of their fans to a greatest hits band. Def Leppard talks about this all the time and the excuses sound just like Neal's. "Our fans expect this, we only have so much time, we can only plug in a few tunes off our new material."

When Def Lep started their 'X' tour they were playing 5 songs off it in the beginning. That became bathroom break time for many. The band got so tired of seeing the momentum being lost that they eventually dropped it down to one measly song from the new album they were trying to support.

They do play Escape a lot, but not because it was a radio hit. It's one of those songs that reinvigorates the audience after hit fatigue set in. When they play some songs that are mid tempo to slow back to back, (Lights, Send her My love, Open Arms, Who's Cryin' Now, etc.).

Escape is a huge crowd pleaser. I also wouldn't discount BGTYS. Vast majority of the audiences get into that one. We are talking about casual fans, after all.

Escape and Stone In Love are my favorite rock songs by Journey.

Agreed. They are two of mine as well...storyteller makes a good point regarding ESCAPE. I just meant that I don't lump it in with the "hitsville" Journey tunes, as I'm not sure the lay-fan would even recognize it.
