OT-Celine Dion Special This past Friday night---a question

Postby BobbyinTN » Tue Feb 19, 2008 12:45 pm

Did anyone else watch her special. I know she's awesome and all, but if you saw it, did you notice that some of the songs were lipsynced?

She did an awesome cover of the George Harrison song, "Something In The Way" with Joe Walsh on guitar, but it bothers me that some of the songs were lipped, or looked as though they were.

Anyone else?

It came down to a coin toss between the Dion special and the frontal lobotomy that night, and to quote the lyrical genius Brett Michaels of Poison...

"It's like sometimes you can't choose
It's like heads they win
Tails you gonna lose"

So the lobotomy won. C'est la vie.

She's phenomenal. I could listen to her sing every day.

You sure she lipped?

I would be shocked if she lipped.

I'm positive she lipped to 'Taking Chances' but I thought everything else looked live. I've always admired her singing but never really liked many of her songs and couldn't stand to watch her. This time around I have to admit I'm kind of enjoying some of her stuff (even my husband says that and he's always said he can't stand her). Don't know what it is, she just doesn't seem quite so annoying anymore.

No, I'm not sure and I agree, I don't think I've ever heard her sing badly live, but there was just too much polish on some of the vocals and they didn't really vary from the studio versions.

So I was hopin' for some back up.

Here's someYouTube footage. http://youtube.com/watch?v=n3RwNg3EaV4&feature=related

I'm pretty sure "River Deep, Mountain High" was sung live, but listen to the next song, the title track from the new CD. I'm almost certain it's lipped.

I've always loved her voice, but this new stuff is just a little bit grittier and I'm lovin' that.

I think "The Power Of Love" was lipped too. The songs that were definitely live was "Something In The Way", "The Prayer" and I think "River Deep, Mountain High" was live.

Maybe she's saving her voice. Something I wish someone else had done.

LOL. I don't see anything wrong with lipping in certain situations. Television specials being one of them.

I did have Perry in mind when I said that. He sang the shit out of his voice. If only he had been able to slow down. The same goes for Augeri.

Sounds like Celine only lipped a couple, and sang the majority. Since it wasn't, at least as far as I know presented as a live concert, then I have no problem with that.

"Something" is a song that carries special memories of a great time in life for me...fact is, the Abbey Road album, as a whole, is a pure masterpiece.

Bravo to Celine and Joe for a job well done on this classic...and thanks for posting the youtube.com link.

This reminds me of the scene in "Wayne's World 2" where Garth has visions of dental surgery as compared to having to listen to Kenny G.

BLECH. I thought this was terrible. I saw it when it was on. It was like "Hello, I'm Celine Dion and these are my famous friends!". I think Walsh (whom I usually like) butchered the guitar parts and the show was just like some 1970s Carpenter's special. Yuck. The guitar in the original is so subtle and just has the best tone... Walsh made a mess of it in my opinion.
She's a great singer though, I just have a hard time watching her. Same with Aguilera. AMAZING singer, but to watch her is annoying as hell.

Yes, she lips. Has for a quite a while. Her Vegas show has several songs lipped. She's not a spring chicken anymore.

It doesn't get ANY BETTER than the second side of Abbey Road.

Perfection. Gets to me every time I listen to it.

Her voice is not my cup of tea. Too 'reedy' and 'shrill' for my taste. But I think she's a really nice woman. Eccentric and just a little bit nuts.

She did a TV special on UK television recently, and she lipped on that, definitely. But her pieces to the audience and tv interviews she gave at the time it was filmed were hilarious.
Nutty as a fruitcake.

Celine wasn't lipping, but Joe was!
She's a phenominal singer, one of my guilty pleasures.

In Joe's defense, Celine did say that they just quickly threw it together...

I thought it was pretty good for being done spur of the moment. Of course, nothing compares to George's version, which to me is perfect in every way.
