You've got more courage than I do getting up there and giving it a go.
Thanks for sharing that with us Rip.

I've got the bug to do some Rip Rookieness tonight, and am about to go in search of a new video camera.... In the meantime, enjoy this 2nd public service announcement against drinking and singing... LOL! Same idiot, different night!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BUztvfs5dA

I picked this song as a joke, but to be honest, I actually got excellent feedback from this when I did it -- volume in a live environment can cover up a lot of mistakes, but it came out like CRAP on tape. All the pitchiness is obviously evident, as well as the horrible timing issues. What had happened was it was the last night of a 6-week contest, but I don't like to compete. I waited 'til the contest was over, and then I did this right after the last song... problem was, it was 2am by this time, and I was very drunk... Even worse, the cameraman seems to have gotten jittery on the trigger during the botched high-notes at the end, which only hurt the video even worse. I do clown around a bit, though... LOL! The girl that slaps or shakes my hand at the end was the one who had just won the contest that night, and we later sang a duet of "Open Arms". She's a huge Journey fan! Thank God that didn't get recorded because we were both so drunk by then that we could hardly stand up!

Anyway, there is an obvious reason I've been sitting on these for 3+ years without sharing them... LOL!

Never helium, but I do make special use of a rubber band to boost that range.

Just got my new camcorder and am about to start delving into Rip Rookieness territory... battery is charging as we speak!

Ok, (i know I shouldn't do this) what does a rubber band and your range have to do with one another?

(I know I will kick myself for this)

It's used to restrict the blood flow from the scrotum to the throat, I think.

This camcorder is the COOLEST, btw... Playing with it now... I finally have come into the 21st Century... LOL!

a) I don't think you were drunk at all.
b) Actually, I'm convinced you have the biggest balls on this forum.
c) The Journey tune wasn't that bad at all to be honest.
d) I had to turn the Deon song off, it was just too weird seeing a guy sing that song.

You have some pipes, could use a little more power when the vibrato kicks in. But that's how I can tell you actually can sing, because you control the vibrato enough to use it at the end of a sentance or phrase. Alot of noobs will use vibrato all the time. ;) Overall, Ill be dammed, but so far the best voice on this forum from users I've heard so far! Now I want to hear a more controlled recording of a karaoke track in a studio, or perhaps with a live band. ;)

Hey, Tex.... I just did a recording of "Lights" with my new camcorder, and for a quick first-time run, it came out fairly well! Just Rip Rookieness-style, but using a karaoke track instead of singing along with the real CD. Now I just need to find out how to squeeze that 200MB file up to YouTube.

Oh, yes.... I was absolutely drunk on both counts....

As for singers on this board, I know of at least this many that kick my ass -- JSS, Jeremey, BobbyInTN, Liquid Drummer. I'm probably leaving some out...

JSS, JH don't count. ;) I was referring to more typical users, and so far you're the cream of the crop. ;) I look forward to hearing more. Now you have me curious. ;)

Might beat Dion's range, but will never come close to Don's range...
