OT: The way Superman should be...

.. Batman, too for that matter. Anyone with reasoning would have to concur that Superman Returns sucked on every level... it was dark, gloomy, humorless, and there was no chemistry between any of the actors. Sure it had its moments, but they were few and far in-between.

Glad they found someone who bore a passing resemblance to Christopher Reeve, but he didn't look much like Superman -- didn't even have the same build. I know it was a dream job for Brandon Routh, but enough is enough... time to find a Superman that actually LOOKS like the Superman of the comics.

I think they should hire this guy -- he's as good as they are going to come. This is a very well made fan film from 2004 called "World's Finest" by Sandy Collera, and sure, the acting needs a little polish, but you aren't going to find a better looking Superman anywhere. Comic fans will recognize the title as coming from the comic series which teamed up Superman and Batman.

Right on the $, Ripper, as far as SUPERMAN RETURNS. What a complete, boring turd of a film...and the WORST Lois Lane ever.

It was a faux trailer for a film project that never existed -- just very professionally done. The guy who played Batman, Clark Bartram, also played him in Batman: Dead End, which was a Batman/Predator short film. Both he and Michael O'Hearn (Superman) are bodybuilders, and it makes the difference. Also proved that you can keep the classic costumes and be very cool -- they don't need to be dinked with that much. Spider-Man proved that as well, as will Iron Man.

Look up Batman: Dead End and give it a watch... it's very well made, but I didn't care for the storyline as well.

I'm astounded they didn't make the whole movie..If they made more movies like that, people would go nuts..The problem is,joe 6 pack or main stream people don't get it..That's why hollywood has to dumb the movie down.. The best movies of all time were the ones that took chances with characters.. Star Trek the wrath of khan.. Superman II..

Both great films... but there were two major factors here. Licensing, and budget... I do believe there have been some full-length fan films before, but they can't be commercially released, and probably cost an arm and a leg to make. I keep that in mind when viewing this one, and just say they did a heck of a job for what they had to work with.

If you want to see another excellent fan film, check out Grayson... Robin returns after the death of Batman... Outstanding! I believe the writer and director also played the role of Dick Grayson. Kind of a "Dark Knight Returns" take for Robin, and several classic characters appear... The Joker is chilling!

I saw these a few years ago. Pretty cool. I think that Bale is hard to beat in Batman Returns. To me, that was just such a great movie. As much as I liked Nicholson as the Joker, I think that BR was BY FAR the best batflick.

As for the last Superman movie- it was terrible. To be honest, I was not a fan of any of the Superman flicks with the possible exception of Superman II. They were just too goody goody. Christopher Reeve was great playing him, but the stories weren't great and he didn't have much to work with.
If you want to talk new Superman flicks, I really think that they're missing the boat by not using Lex and Clark Kent from "Smallville". The Lex actor is great and CK would be great in the Superman role as well. The rest of the cast, I can take or leave, but these two seriously should be given the nod, especially Lex Luthor. He's really really good as that character.

As far as the last Superman being dark, I actually prefer a darker storyline, but it wasn't so much that it was dark, it was more that the story was incomplete, there was no chemistry, and it was absolutely a stupid premise. Terrible Terrible Terrible. The animated Doomsday movie was better.

Just me, lettin' my geek hang out.

What I really meant about it being dark was visually -- looked rainy and overcast, which set the mood for the film. A better term I guess is "gloomy". The story was indeed terrible. Heck, there wasn't even a showdown with Lex at the end... very bad story. Again, it did have its moments, but they were far and few in-between.
